I really wanted to love this place, but they have some major work to do! We’ve been there three times now, twice for dinner and once for lunch. The first dinner the steak was WELL, well done when I asked for medium rare. Nobody at our table felt their steak was the doneness that they had ordered. I will say that they were very accommodating and did make me a new one however, it took a very long time for it to come out and by the time it came out, my family was all done with their dinner. When I first had pointed out that it was overcooked, I just asked them to take it back to the kitchen and then told them I didn’t need one, but they insisted. Since they were so insistent, I thought it would come very quickly, but it took an excessively long time. They made no offer to discount anything and I ended up taking it home with me as I had just eaten off of other people‘s plates. Typically, I would just eat the steak regardless of doneness, but this was inedible and it was the only time I’ve sent a steak back in my life. The plus side to being able to take the steak home was that I was able to at least season it. I do not think that the steak was seasoned well at all.
The second time the meal was OK and we felt that they were improving. Still not necessarily up to par with the pricing, but not bad.
Unfortunately, the third time we went was for lunch and it was NOT good. Although the waitstaff is very friendly and they try to do a good job, the service and atmosphere do not make up for the lack of good food. We ordered three meals, a kids meal, and an appetizer. All of the meals were just OK nothing over-the-top and the shrimp appetizer was literally raw, but since it was battered and fried, I could not tell. I bit into the shrimp and immediately could tell that it was cold and I had to spit it out. It was still gray. I am hoping that I do not get sick, but I am fearful given that I did bite into a raw shrimp. They did offer to remove that from our bill however, when we got the bill, it was still on there. We did notify the waitress and then they did take it off, but it felt a bit awkward having to ask for them to remove it when it was offered by them in the first place.
At this point, we do not plan to come back again unless something...
Read moreGreat steakhouse especially stand out in Dolores Colorado. Very modern but I'll never be back cuz the local laundromat owner. I’ve been coming to the Dolores laundromat every week since May, spending $15–20 each time and supporting other local businesses in Dolores along the way (gas, food, beer, dispensary). Altogether, that’s hundreds of dollars directly in this laundromat and several thousand into the Dolores economy. Today I brought in my laundry as usual and tossed one small kitchen bag of trash in the dumpster. The owner came outside, yelled at me, and told me to take it out because “this isn’t a public dumpster.” I pulled the bag right back out, no problem. But the way it was handled made it clear my regular business wasn’t valued. So here’s the bottom line: I’ll be taking my laundry and all of my weekly spending to Cortez from now on. Dolores just lost a loyal summer customer and thousands in tourist dollars because of how this was handled. One bag of trash cost this laundromat and the town much more than it was worth.
Think about it like this:
Gas station – I was filling a tank every week since May, even a conservative 13 gallons) at $4 a gallon is $50–$60 each time. Over 16 weeks, that’s $800–1,000.
Laundry – $15–20 a week = $240–320.
Beer – Even modest, let’s call it $20 a week = $320.
Weed – At an ounce a week (Colorado dispensary pricing, call it $80–120 an ounce), that’s $1,200–1,900.
Food – Even just $40 a week eating out = $640.
Add it all up: I've spent somewhere between $3,200–4,200 in Dolores since May
Now here’s the sting: the laundromat owner didn’t just push away my $20/week of quarters, he pushed away the anchor that kept me spending thousands in town. One trash bag just redirected an entire summer’s economy from Dolores to Cortez.
In other words he swapped out a bag of garbage worth maybe $1 in dump fees for the equivalent of a used car in lost revenue for his town. That’s not a win for “protecting his dumpster,” that’s a bad trade any way you slice it.
You're asking why is this review here because in the town the size of Dolores you all should understand why you've lost money. And who...
Read moreBrought my wife here for a fine dining experience while we were on vacation. Gotta say I was sorely disappointed. First let's get into the bad stuff. My wife ordered the crispy pork belly. The meat came out insanely to sweet and covered in a sauce that almost tasted like melted candy, the pork itself was insanely dry, and they trimmed almost all the fat off the pork belly. We sent it back because no one likes sand feeling meat and it came back slightly better but still dry. I ordered the 12oz new York strip rare. The steak was under cooked because the fat never rendered out, the fat cap was almost completely removed, and what fat cap was left they barely cooked. They put a mound of butter on it that tasted like regular butter with garlic salt mixed in and so much of it that it didnt even melt. This is not garlic butter. I know some people will say but you ordered it rare. I have ordered steaks blue and had a better sear and cook on the fat cap then that. The best thing about the dinner was the table side salad. It was extremely fresh and made to your specifications. The only downside is you pay for side salad separately and it's not included in your meal. When we were asked about getting the side salad, they made it seem like it was part of the meal. Now for the good. The atmosphere of the restaurant screams that it wants to be a high-end place. The way the servers handle your arrival, the decor, the fireplace in the middle of the restaurant, etc... but the immersion is broken quickly when there is no dress code or even a standard for what you can wear there. I went in sweat pants and a call me shirt and they didn't even bat an eye. The service itself was spot on. We sat down and within 5 minutes we had bread, water, drinks ordered, and a server ready to take our order. Our server handled all our questions and complaints with great professionalism. The place was quiet and there was no annoying music playing in the background. To summarize everything. The food was terrible but the atmosphere and service were great. I would not recommend coming here as the $118 plus tip was way to steep for the food that...
