I just want to start by saying that it seems like our experience was out of the ordinary and the staff was very nice and apologetic. My husband and I had an 8:30pm reservation (the restaurant closes at 9). We showed up at 8:15 and the hostess told us it would be 15 - 20 minutes. We watched the many groups go ahead of us including several very large parties. After the last party (of like 10 people) were taken back and we were the only two left, I asked if there was anything they could do. They sat us about 5 minutes after I asked, which was a little after 9:00pm.
They comped us an appetizer which was nice and the mac and cheese was delicious! But when we sat down, we were told that there were 4 - 5 dishes that were no longer available, including the salmon, scallops, and tuna (all of which sounded great). I was super disappointed. So I ordered the steak - medium rare. About 25 minutes later, our food came out. Which makes sense because my steak must have been on the grill the entire time. It was totally gray, no pink what so ever. It turns out that there were too customers who ordered the steak and they swapped our meals. Once they figured it out, the waitress asked if I had eaten any of it or just cut it to check the temperature - was she really going to just give it to the other customer? They took my steak back to the kitchen and very quickly afterwards brought out a steak that was BARELY cooked. It was the rarest steak I've ever eaten. Not good either. They should have comped us that as well but did not.
We left at about 10:30. All in all it was a very disappointing experience. It was our first time in the area and, unfortunately, I don't think it is worth going back to Out of the Fire Cafe the next time we visit...
Read moreThe best restaurant in the Laurel Highlands area, by far! And in my opinion, one of the best in the entire Pittsburgh region. Out of the Fire Cafe is an unusual gem that seems out-of-place (in a good way) in the area. There's simply nothing like it out here. It's top-quality food and in a great location set in the foothills of the 7 Springs resort, yet easily accessible to the Mt. Pleasant/Greensburg area or anybody travelling along the PA turnpike. What I like most about Out of the Fire is that you get fancy restaurant quality food, without all of the fuss that usually goes along with a "fancy" restaurant. You don't have to worry about dressing up, or valet parking, or over-priced drinks (this is a BYOB restaurant), or being disappointed that the food quality doesn't match the inflated prices. None of that is true here... Out of the Fire's food is awesome and it's a nice laid-back place. The steaks are always great, the salads are phenomenal, and even the desserts are amazing (bananas foster = YUM!). We go here on Mother's Day (they always give the moms a flower), anniversaries, and any other chance we get to make an excuse to go. I've never been disappointed by any of the food here and the service is excellent. My kids love it here too.
Please remember to bring your own wine if you want to drink though. Thankfully, there are 2 local wonderful wineries if you're coming from Mt. Pleasant/Greensburg and 1 further down route 31 if you're coming...
Read moreIf you have access to the laurel mountains, I very highly recommend dining at The Out of the Fire Café! I dropped the kids at grandmas last night and brought my “expecting” wife out for a nice dinner! We arrived a lil early to make a nice night of it. Their new bar is beautiful and has plenty to offer. My bride enjoyed the delicious house made n/a Bloody Mary’s, and the bar keep recommend one of the many draft beer selections for myself. While waiting for our table, we had an app of huge pan seared wild sea scallops on a bed of coconut, curry risotto, served with toasted cashew& coconut jumbo lump crab w saffron syrup. Mmmm. We couldn't stop smiling while eating it. Shortly after, we were seated and Joe became our server. He is surprisingly knowledgeable of the menu and acutely attenative to allergens and dietary restrictions. I ordered the Parmesan & horseradish crusted 10oz filet (medium rare). Joe suggested for my wife the Cafe salad of field greens, cherry tomatoes, strawberries, sundried cranberries, pecans and balsamic vinaigrette with smoked salmon. Our meals were amazing. My steak couldn’t have been any more tender and succulent and my wife’s salad was a perfect example of excellence and was quite dazzling!! The flavors are always paired perfectly. Our compliments to the chef! Our taste buds were on overdrive and loving it. The kitchen, wait staff and bar all had a great night! I will always highly recommend Out of the Fire...
