I’ve raved about Flight of Fancy once ago, and here I am years later doing so again. You can’t go wrong here, whether it’s sweet or savory your taste buds are craving.
I visited the bakery twice during my weekend in Donnelly. On the first day, my husband and I shared a breakfast burrito (scrambled eggs, sausage, salsa, hash browns, dried, cheese, wrapped with a wheat tortilla, $7.00), a cream cheese lemon muffin ($3.00) and a huckleberry donut ($2.00). The burrito was delicious. It was generously packed with all the goods and served at the perfect temperature. Full of flavor, I didn’t even need any hot sauce. The muffin was rich, baked with a yummy ball of cream cheese in the middle. You’ll want a big glass of milk to go with this one. The huckleberry donut was absolutely out-of-this-world. The frosting was wonderfully creamy and bursting with flavors of fresh, Idaho huckleberry. If you’re a tourist, this is a MUST TRY.
On day two, my husband ordered another burrito because he was so impressed with the first. I went for the breakfast sandwich ($7.00) which was unlike any I had ever had before. It’s a thick slice of delicious, homemade frittata (eggs, cheese, green chiles, salsa, sour cream, dried onion and flour ) with cheddar cheese between two slices of focaccia. I can’t say enough good things about it. Each bite was phenomenal. The frittata was incredibly well seasoned as was the focaccia. I will be returning for this sandwich and more sweet treats.
The service is outstanding as well. The owner is incredibly warm and welcoming. Flight of Fancy is a GEM. I can only hope it sticks around for...
Read moreGreat little place. Friendly staff. There are lots of yummy things in the case. I forgot about the need for gluten-free choices for a friend. They do have a few. Unfortunately, they were out of the baked oatmeal but had either a gluten-free brownie or a layered bar. She enjoyed a Chai tea and the layered bar. I had a wonderful pre-made breakfast burrito. They have hot sauce and a sour cream packet they offer with it. I also got a lemon huckleberry bread for later. 4/5 of us got the bread. It was hard not to also leave with pumpkin bread, cinnamon roll, and my favorite latte. This leaves room for the fact that we'll need to go back a couple of times in the future. My friends did say the coffee was good, and one of the friends had a huckleberry Italian soda that was made from fresh berry syrup. It looked amazing with actual huckleberries in it. I do have one FYI they don't have a public bathroom. They have a honey bucket on the side of the building. This is a serious struggle for me. I don't have problems using a bucket, but when it comes to eating, I need soap and water to wash my hands. I understand using sanitizer, but that's an issue for me. I had to hold it for the time of eating and ended up waiting another 20 plus minutes after eating to go because it's freezing this time of year. I look forward to sitting outside and enjoying a treat either this...
Read moreThere's good, great, and not so good about Flight of Fancy. Great: the prices are unbelievably low, and the quantity is surprisingly "a lot" for the money. Compared to small towns or big cities, what we paid and how much our bellies ingested was GREAT.
Good: the fresh-made pastries, muffins, desserts. Our least favorite (it's subjective, I know) tasting treat was still "good" and our favorites were "hey, this is really good." We didn't go for breakfast or any of the somewhat sad-looking premade items in the case.
Not so good: The service is either super small town friendly or it's "I wonder who pissed in her coffee". One employee was so grumpy on our two visits that we felt like she was on her last day of parolee community service and couldn't wait to get the F outta there. But I guess that's life in general.
We will be back. Nothing in further down the road in McCall offers the same level of quantity and quality. Okay, Stacey Cakes is really good, but their prices are OMG $$$. I digress. If FoF is open when passing through you should stop in. Fingers crossed you get the nice employee.
PS: the porta potty outside is the only public restroom. Icky, I know, but...
