Hai Yan Oriental Cuisine — Restaurant in Donnelly

I wish I had saved photos of what happened to us last night. I never leave negative reviews, but after being sick all night, I thought it would be a good idea. First, both of us are cooks, and we finally didn't have any kids for the evening, so we wanted to finally have a meal we didn't cook. We got a suggestion from Google for this place, and here was what we experienced:

We walked in around 8:30pm. Tables were not bussed and dirty, but I figured that could be from a busy dinner rush, so we sat at the "bar". We ordered two sodas. The young girl behind the bar serving was in her teens, and didn't really talk to us at all, which is fine. My boyfriend, after taking one drink, saw CHUNKS of floating black mold in his orange soda. We know this to be from the pieces of the soda machine not being cleaned. It took 5 minutes for us to get her attention, and when he showed her the drink, she just said "oh", took the drink away, and never gave him any apology, didn't get the soda machine cleaned, and never gave him another drink. We had to ask for something else to drink. He ordered the orange chicken combo. I ordered the Mongolian beef. Mind you, the whole time, member if the staff or family were coming around from the back glaring at us, clearly coming around to see us. The food came, and it was very bland and in my opinion some of the worst quality Asian food I've ever had. He thought so too. But we never ate much of it, because two bites in, I saw a hair in my entree. I pulled it AND IT WAS LONG AND PULLED FOOD WITH IT ALL THE WAY OUT. At that point, we were done. We called the person we thought was a responsible party over and even after showing her the hair, it was no big deal to her. She argued with us about the mold that was clearly in the glass, and the only thing she said to us was, "it's ok you can go, I won't charge you." WHAT!? I work as a cook, and so does he. This was terrible all around. The worst part of it was that about 30 minutes later, I got sick, and even vomited when we got back to boise. I will never go here again, and I contacted the Health...

I really wish I had thought to take a photo of my food, but to be honest I was in shock that it was so terrible.

I ordered the honey almond shrimp combo meal. I'm telling you.... the sauce looked like nacho cheese and it was cold. It didn't taste like honey or almond to be honest. When we asked what was in the sauce, the lady said "honey". This sauce was flourescent orange. So we had to dig further and ask what else was in the sauce. She answered "mayonnaise". This is the worst dish I have ever eaten. The shrimp was thickly coated in breading and way overcooked. The sauce was absolutely terrible. Rice was okay, soup was okay. Everything was WAY overpriced.

Every single employee looked miserable and mad. Service was not good. And asking to split the check was such a complicated process we finally just gave up and paid it all on one card.

I will never come back to this...

Asked for how long for food and they said 35 minutes, turned out to be an hour and 45 minutes 🙃 People came in after us and got food before us! It was a little strange as we had two meals and it was not extremely busy. So ultimately the service was slow. I could tell the main gentleman was a kind man and trying his best. He was aware of when drinks were needed which was nice.

The food itself was okay. One plate came out incredibly hot while the other plate was cold! Very disappointing after waiting so long.

I would say it’s probably a better experience pick up or take home instead of dining in as it seemed they took priority of those orders. Will not be going again. Hope you have a better experience than we did! We will just go to Panda Express for half the money, twice the speed...
