Green Top on old 78 hwy has been around forever . Started off as a duck your head while you're eatin' to a family eatery with arguably some of the best BBQ in the area. Food was good but restaurant was so full of cigarette smoke I had to stop eating in, If one was lucky enough to get a warm whole shoulder or butt for family it was just heaven. They had great burgers and big old greasy hand cut fries. Slaw and beans were good. Men's rest room didn't have a workable lock on it so you just took your chances. Interstate 22 then opened up, Jim'n'Nicks and Full Moon came to Jasper and I'm sure business dropped off a lot. They first moved into Jasper at a ricky-tick little drive thru that Slick Lizard (just awful BBQ) had opened. The parking lot and drive through in that strip mall looked like an earthquake had hit. FINALLY they have moved into the old Reese's on 5/195. The place is clean, there is no smoking and the locks on the rest room doors actually work! I guess I can put up with that because the food is just as good. Gonna get some ribs today... Follow up review April 2018... Green Top in Jasper went through a bad slump a couple years back. Owner/manager died and the place caught on fire. Had some really bad ribs there. Now seems to be coming back. Latest lunch plates have been good and barbecue...
Read moreHeard about this place all my life and was excited to have the chance to try it. I was hoping forv"Diners, Drive-In, and Dives" kind of experience. The dive part of that phrase fits the interior, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. The food was mostly okay. Nothing came out of the kitchen hot though. And we waited long enough that it should have been prepared fresh. I ordered fries and they were prepared from real potatoes. If they had been hot and/or crispy, that alone would add a star to this review. The mac and cheese was creamy, and more homemade tasting than it looked like it was going to be. My daughter ordered cheesecake for dessert, which they make on site. It was quite bland and nothing to brag about. The service was just okay. Wait staff could not explain the food items on the menu and was slow and not very attentive. Served attitude up just fine though. And the price point was more than a bit off base for the portion sizes. That is very uncommon for a country cooking place. If you are in the area, there are not many dining choices, so I won't say you should not try it. But maybe keep your...
Read moreI pass this place often and have not eaten there in many years because it was not good then. So since it has been so long, I thought I would give them another try. Well we went the other day at 4:30. It was busy but not packed. We simply ordered bbq sandwiches fries and drink. We waited and waited for food. Once the waitress came by and said she is waiting for it. Fast forward 30 minutes and still no food. I started seeing people in the next room that came in after us getting food. By now its 40 minutes to get a bbq sandwich. so I told the waitress to give me a check for my tea since I did drink that and I was leaving. A man later appeared, I guess a mgr and said he was sorry and did not charge for my tea. He was friendly but still. I didn't order something they had to go cook shouldn't take this long. 40 min in a bbq place is unacceptable. I will continue to get my...
