Baby wanted dinner and I said let's do dinner somewhere we have not eaten. I made a mistake 😞 choosing this establishment. The atmosphere at kinza is well designed. The service was not up standard our was a foreign national who spoke very little English. I requested a glass of water and a glass of the house Merlot wine. The wine was a complete and utter miss. I ordered the kinza house signature fried rice which would have been a simple house fried rice at any other restaurant serving Asian cuisine. The shrimp in my dish was diced up not one whole shrimp as well as overcooked. My love ordered the filet mignon with shrimp and fried rice. Her steak had been cut into little chunks resembling beef stew chunks. Her shrimp were also overcooked to the point she didn't want to eat them. She said the best part of her meal was the Miso soup 🍲. Otherwise her salad had too much salad dressing.

The good: service was prompt at first and the soup was really hot and flavourful. The bad: ordered the spicy salmon and as soon as it was within a couple of feet the overpowering smell of fish hit. I took apart the roll. The nori was flimsy with no crispness, and the Salmon was discoloured with streaks of white running through it, that looked like the natural white striations had blurred and turned to jelly. and smelled of heavy fish. I pressed it and it didn’t spring back leaving a fingerprint, and it was just a little below room temp. I don’t know if they pre do the rolls or what, but I did let the lady at the counter know the fish wasn’t fresh and shouldn’t be in a roll. She said it couldn’t possibly be old because they change the fish everyday. I paid as I had ordered it, but will not return.

1/3 the size rolls should be. See photo. Roll on left is the size of a quarter. Roll on the right is slightly larger. That to-go box is only 6 inches wide (to give you prospective). No creativity at all in presentation. I’ve seen better looking sushi at the grocery store. Both rolls were mostly rice with very little fish, and the fish it did have tasted old and rubbery. Definitely not fresh. I regret going ahead and eating it. Sushi is expensive, but now I feel sick. On the plus side, the girls working the counter were kind and professional, and the dining room is gorgeous. My order was to-go, so the service I received is only in that respect. There’s a reason there was only one other customer in the place at dinner time. Read the reviews. I wish I had before giving it a try.

Original review: The food is excellent. Our favorites are the hibachi chicken, and many of the sushi rolls. The chefs are true sushi masters at this restaurant, We love it!! Sadly, things have changed drastically at Kinza. Twice now we've gotten poor service and were very disappointed in the food quality. The first time, we ordered what we normally get and when we got back home (15 minutes away) we realized that one of the rolls wasn't what we wanted; it smelled so bad we couldn't eat it. When we called to inform them that we had gotten something we didn't order, we were told we got what we ordered and the lady on the phone argued with my wife about what we had gotten was what we asked for. First of all, even if we had ordered the wrong thing (which we didn't; we've ordered a futomaki roll several dozen times and know what it's supposed to look and taste like) she still should have offered to make good on the mistake the next time we were in the restaurant, but she told my wife there was nothing she could do since we had gotten what we ordered. It was something neither one of us could get past the smell to even try, and visually whatever it was, it looked disgusting.

The second time, we went to dine in the restaurant and we were told to just have a seat, someone would be right with us. We waited for 10 minutes and still hadn't seen a waitress to even take our drink order, and meanwhile, the lady who had told us just to find a seat proceeded to merrily greet someone who walked in and sat down at the bar and took his rather lengthy order, fawning all over him like an old friend. Still no drink order. Five minutes later, we had our drink order taken and it was another 10 minutes before our food order was taken!! Meanwhile, one of the chefs came out from the kitchen and started ringing up people's orders who were trying to leave the restaurant because they had gotten tired of waiting at their table for someone to take their money. Then, we had our order taken and we proceeded to watch over the next 15 minutes as the guy sitting at the bar had sushi roll after sushi roll after sushi roll brought to him and added to his takeout order (this was the guy who came in after us, remember?) and another couple came in and sat down and their drink order was taken. We soon got our hibachi we ordered and the couple who had come in some 30 minutes after us received their sushi roll! We sat and watched as they soon got the rest of their meal and our 2 sushi rolls arrived soon after that. One of them was incorrect! This was the 2nd time in the restaurant we had received an incorrect roll, and the 3rd time overall!! When we asked the waitress about it, she said that was the correct roll: a California roll. Most California rolls don't come with a piece of smoked fish in it and covered in thick orange fish roe! We gave up at this point, and decided we would just leave and not come back. We waited 15 minutes for our check and finally had to flag our waitress down to pay her. Meanwhile, the couple who came in 30 minutes after us had paid, left, and been long gone.

We won't be back for a long time, if ever. That was ridiculous to fill a takeout order who came in after us and before we had even been asked what we wanted to drink! But, it was quite obvious they knew who this guy was and were more than pleased to fill his order before we got waited on. To make matters worse, the food was sub-par and didn't taste nearly as good as it...

My husband and I went to dinner here, the prices absolutely do not match the atmosphere and or quality of food. The atmosphere is extremely run down, booth cushions torn to shreds, stuffing in cushions in the booth and chairs exposed coming out and or just horrible looking. Atmosphere very dark and dismal, I can only say it was so dark due to the level of how bad the inside of the place looked. To shed light on the place would absolutely make you think twice in dining and or spending the prices they are asking. The food was not what you would expect at $19-$24 a plate. My husbands dish had to be sent back because half of it came out cold. My food the vegetables where hard, scallops half where burned and half where undercooked. The salads where served with way to much dressing the salad was swimming in the dressing. About the only positive was the soup. And on a side note the majority of the staff including the cooks where Mexican and couldn't hardly speak English. Even our server was having difficulty understanding us and despite that there where only two others dining while we where there, she was late getting our drink order and then was late getting the drinks to us. When we did finally receive the main dishes I asked for chop sticks and due to the language barrier I had to use my fingers to sign for chop sticks and then he pointed to the caddy on the table shoved with condiments and soy sauce with paper wrapped chop sticks you would find in a to go dish for Chinese food, not customary for a Japanese upscale place. Just Cheap! Also noticed that the caddy as well as the plastic advertisement for cocktails where all disgustingly dirty, sticky, and covered in gross film. Just made me feel over all unclean place. We where horribly disappointed and more upset at the prices verses the quality. This is a franchise but I bet in Atlanta or any other city for that matter you wouldn't see or have this happening. As someone that has had good Japanese habachi dinners, I can say this is a place I do not care or feel the price is worth the food atmosphere and service your being provided. It was more like a run down Wendy's in Japanese. Horrible and WAY OVER PRICED!! I only clicked a star because you have to in order to even rate this place, but this place in my opinion doesn't even...

I don’t usually leave reviews but this place was by far the worst I’ve ever experienced at a Japanese restaurant. I ordered shrimp and fried snapper hibachi. They brought out these small salad shrimp which was overcooked with no seasoning. The fried snapper wasn’t fresh either. It had no seasoning. My wife ordered a medium well steak. The steak came out extra well done. The server clearly lacks training and knowledge about the menu or food when answering questions. The manager or whoever she was clearly didn’t care that our food lacked taste, substance and preparation. Instead she walked away. Needless to say, I did not leave a tip. I am still trying to figure out why are there so many good reviews on this place. I’m convinced that people in lower Alabama don’t know how food should taste. Please….if anyone is reading this and you have high standards for food DO NOT COME HERE. If you have any standards, DO...
