Listen, I am not the type of person to write a review for anything. I consider my purchases to be lessons on fiscal responsibility and nothing more. That’s until this fateful day—the day I ordered Penso’s Pizza.
This is by far the most heavenly and delicious pizza I have ever had in my entire life. The crust has been hand crafted with care and kissed gingerly by a 550 degree pizza oven imported from Italy. I had no idea that a dinner budget of 30 big ones would warrant a firework show of flavor on my taste buds. The sauce? Insane. The toppings? Fresh. The cheese? Beautifully hidden under the sauce like it was the lost city of Atlantis with all its treasures—except the treasures here were flavor and richness.
Speaking of richness, do you know what else is rich? The family history of this place. Upon entering the store, I read a newspaper clipping about the business—Penso’s has been making great pizza for several generations now. If that’s not a green flag for good pizza, I don’t know what is.
Upon arriving to Penso’s Pizza, I walked in to probably the best customer service (and arguably best human interaction) I’ve ever had in the state of Ohio. The staff was incomprehensibly kind, caring, and polite. When it was time for my life-changing pizza to come home with me, the staff held the door open for me. It was such a nice gesture, that I found myself nearly blushing on my way to pack my precious cargo in my vehicle.
Basically what I’m saying here is: if you haven’t had Penso’s, you should just do it. If you’re reading google reviews trying to decide if you want to order here, this is the sign you were looking for. It will be so worth it. I thought all you people were being crazy and fanatic describing your love for this place. I was wrong, and I’ve come to the light.
TL;DR: this pizza was so damn good that I decided to write my first ever Google review like I’m...
Read moreIf you find this review helpful please thumbs up! First a note to new customers - apparently cheese is NOT included as part of the pizza...you MUST order it as a topping! I ordered an XL pepperoni and sausage pizza and specifically asked for extra cheese...I was informed there was an extra fee, but because it was a special it wasn't eligible...ok no big deal, I said I'd throw the extra cheese on at home. I get home and surprise to me - no cheese! It was literally dough, sauce, pepperoni and sausage. Very disappointing - why wouldn't they tell me there was no cheese, when I clearly wanted cheese if I asked about extra cheese??? The sauce was good, as well as the toppings. The dough was too soft and had no crunch (disappointing because other reviews mentioned a crunchy crust). The staff was very friendly. The breadsticks were pretty good tho, those got devoured quickly. My only negatives was the lack of cheese which just really brought down the whole experience as a first time customer and the cost. For the cost I would not go back again, $22+ for dough, sauce, and 2 toppings with no cheese is just not worth it to me. They appeared very busy, so obviously I'm in the minority, but that was my experience and...
Read morePenso's is the best pizza I can find at any price, anywhere in the country. I have tried many pizza places that come close in Chicago, Detroit, and elsewhere, but they just aren't as good as a good old Penso pizza. I envy you folks that live in Dover. Many times in life we get disappointed by a good restaurant that goes down the tubes. Penso's is the one place that I can count on selling an excellent pizza each time. Consistent quality! Penso's is so good, its better reheated the next day than many pizza shops are fresh! I'm a third generation customer and I share Penso's with my family. The Dover store doesn't offer much in ambiance in their tiny dining room, but its there if you need it. They will even give you a paper plate to eat off of and 2L pop is available in the cooler. If you need a Penso's Pizza dining room experience, visit the New Phila store - its good too and has more than pizza on the menu. No delivery is available - pizza is so good you will drive to come get it. I drive about 100 miles...
