Carlo's Pizza House — Restaurant in Downey

Eating at Carlo’s had been on my bucket list since I noticed the restaurant a year or 2 back while driving down Woodruff toward my home in Downey. Cozy hole in the wall type place that always looks busy. Checked out their menu & it was a must do. Worked late tonight, no time to cook, so finally made it through. Wow! My Mom is a Bronx Italian & I know great Italian food when I can find it, which isn’t always easy! This place is Italian owned & amazingly authentic. The Calzone was great, freshly made & very filling. The sauce is deliciously real! The lasagna & especially the raviolis very good! The garlic bread tastes and looks like it’s made from scratch. Great staff & food (homemade). The Carlo's Roast Beef sandwich is one of the best around. Spaghetti with meatballs, finally a place that isn't afraid of garlic and knows how to use it.

Been back a number of times and still really good food. My only issue I've had was trying to phone in orders. They never answer their phone, I've made calls on 2 occasions and they didn't. I've been at the restaurant and noticed the phone ring and never being answered. Tonight we tried Grubhub, at 6:45 pm and got confirmation our order would be delivered at 7:45 @ 8:15 still has not been delivered, we called Carlo's to see what the problem might be. No answer. I called it order for pickup at 7:00 was informed that it would take 30 minutes. I got there at 7:30 paid for the calzone, then was informed after pain that I'd have to wait 10 more minutes because they had to make meatloaf. Seen that they hadn't even started on my calzone because they started making it right when I got there and that it only actually took 10 minutes to cook was really upsetting. I've been a line cook for 7 years everything is supposed to be ready before service there were no orders before me I was the only order, 40 minutes for a calzone that only takes 10 minutes that's very bad...
