The Dog House is exactly the kind of local bar you hope to stumble into laid-back, full of character, and serving up food that goes way beyond what youâd expect from a neighborhood joint. I stopped in on a whim and was seriously impressed.
First off, the Carmichael burger lives up to the hype. Perfectly seasoned, juicy, and stacked with cheese in the middle itâs one of the best bar burgers Iâve had in Iowa. I also tried their wings, and the flavor options are wild in the best way. The Raspberry Jalapeño was a surprising favorite sweet with just enough kick.
The vibe inside is relaxed and friendly. Plenty of TVs to catch a game, and the crowd was a nice mix of regulars and new faces. Itâs easy to feel like a regular here, even if itâs your first time. The bartenders were quick and easy to chat with, which makes all the difference.
Whether youâre stopping in for drinks, a bite, or just looking for a solid place to unwind after work, The Dog House hits the mark. Definitely one of Dubuqueâs...

(Hint: you got up to the bar) My hubby and I are from Southern WI, so we had no idea. Lol We asked one of the locals close to us. The staff was really nice though. You go up to get your own food when the beeper goes off. It's a clean, and relaxed sports bar, withs everal dart boards in the back. It's really cute actually!! I'm super glad we stopped too, because the food alone is worth the trip we made to Iowa!!!! YUM! We will definitely revisit when driving through again! My hubby got the regular Carmichael and I got the Western. They were to DIE FOR!!!!! They were fairly big. As I told my husband: I don't necessarily wish it was bigger, but I wish my sandwich...
Read moreFor about 5 dollars, one of the best burgers you can get, period. Got the Carmichael, their signature burger with LTOP added. Some of the juiciest beef I've had in a burger in ages. Toppings were simple and strictly ok, but I can't complain too much for the price point. Cheese mix added to it well and really elevated it. Fries were admittedly pretty mediocre, unseasoned and kinda soggy. But they gave me free ranch, which was ok, as well as nacho cheese sauce, which tasted just like you'd imagine. Overall vibe was quite cozy and fun. They stick to the theme well and keep it comfortable. Service was excellent too, which elevates it otherwise from a 4 star. Would highly recommend for a burger and/or brews at a great price point! Will definitely be back for...
