Don Jose Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Duncan

The food was splendid. Carne asada tacos done to a turn. Excellent pork tamales. The service was a bit spotty, but if you're not in a rush, check them out!

Update: yesterday I was craving tamales, so I decided to go and order my food to go and have a margarita while I waited. They make a decent margarita, which is saying something. They seated me in the bar, brought my drink to me, and let me sit there and read until my food was ready. There were two couples at the bar, and they were enjoying themselves and said they wouldn't mind if I took a picture of them. I happily walked out and came home and opened up containers of extremely savory Mexican food. I ordered the Don Jose platter which comes with one tamale, one carne asada taco, one beef burrito, and a cheese stuffed chile relleno. Small side of guacamole, a bushel of chips and salsa and queso. I still haven't eaten all of it! I first ate the carne asada taco, and it was as good as they come. Later in the evening I ate the tamale. I love the taste of the masa with the savory filling of pork. This evening I had the beef burrito which was scrumptious, and tomorrow I have a chile relleno to look forward to! I've eaten decent Tex Mex in many different places. This is one of the best. The staff is friendly and helpful, I was surprised my food came out before I finished my drink, and I came home with a bounty to last...

Cant get a basic to go order right. In response to your comment: i was in the restaurant earlier before i placed my order and after i walked in and was leaning on your soda machine by the door and another couple walked in and she helped them before me so i left and put in a to-go order and was told it would be 10 minutes. I walked in 25 minutes later and she went back to check on the order. After another 5 minutes i asked her to go back and check on my order and if it wasn't ready to just tell them to cancel it. Soon after, someone came to take my money and a few minutes later "my" order came up. Upon my exit i asked the young lady if she was the one working the hostess station for the past few hours and she said yes. I then said " I recommend you up your situational awareness, i was in earlier and you helped a couple infrot of me" she then apologized and i said as i was walking out the door "no need to apologize I know you were busy". I then found out my order was wrong and came back and asked for a manager and "Blue shirt lady" who was next to the hostess said "I'm the manager" and i told her to throw it away and left. I hold nothing against the young hostess, only the kitchen and whoever responded to me putting blame on...

We had the Wet Burrito and Chicken Sampler. The burrito was great, full of flavor and the ingredients where cooked well. I did the chicken/ground beef combo with white Queso, which is an upcharge. The chicken sampler plate was lacking in authentic taste and preparation of the items included which were: the chicken taco, chicken quasadilla, chicken fluara, and a small chicken burrito type item with a thin white creamy layer over the top, which was not Queso 😒. We also ordered 2 margaritas both of which had thick tequila taste but were very good. I had an Iced version of the "Perfect Margarita" my wife had the frozen "Mango Margarita".

Outside: The restaurant is petite like many small town Mexican restaurants. And could use some cosmetic maintenance but is not an eye sore. Parking is easily accessible and accommodating for all vehicle sizes.

Our table was freshly wiped down when we arrived which left the old rag and dirty bleach water smell lingering for our entire stay but we shrugged it off with hopes of great food. The waitress was very nice, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. We had a good time and after we try a few other spots may return...
