This place s is a disaster.
My wife and I went for a late lunch on a Sunday. We weren't sure about the seating since the photos online list show seating, but all the wording suggest its a take out place. IT'S A TAKE OUT PLACE. Don't think otherwise. Yes, they have three very small tables inside that comfortably seat two people, and a bench outside. There's basically no indoor seating.
The menu is kind of awful. It's not at all clear and the handwriting isn't very good either.
(There's also weird choices on there like Kangaroo, which might be delicious but with the current state of Australia seems a bit tone deaf.)
After deciphering the menu and seeing the couple in front of us do some add-ons to their menu we discovered you can add egg and cheese, but it's not clear how much or what type of cheese or how those eggs are cooked. We placed our orders and since there were no seats inside we got our food to go. We asked if there was additional seating in the main True Flavors location, which I guess there is sometimes, but not all the time. This was very unclear. There's like ZERO vegetables on this menu so be aware if you're going with vegetarians or vegans.
I got the honey Chipotle Lime chicken biscuit. My wife got the Dragon BBQ brisket biscuit. There's no descriptions of these biscuits and no clear signage if you can add anything on. Be warmed, if you don't you are getting ONLY THAT biscuit and nothing more. As we waited for our food a lot of things kind of became clear about this place. It's not very clean. We also got a side of Mac & cheese and cheese grits since the mint fruit on the menu wasn't available.
The cashier was also busing the tables and also preparing the biscuits. There seemed to be only her and a cook who was heating up some stuff. There seemed to be a lot of heating up of things and less of actual cooking. The biscuits are precooked and placed in a fast food style warmer. Between trying to help out the costumers the cashier was trying bus tables and assemble food all the while without wearing gloves or a hairnet or hat. This seems like a sanitation no-no.
There was also lots of food on the floor of the dining area from people brushing off their tables onto the ground and the assembling area of the biscuits being brushed onto the floor. The cashier kept explaining to people "They just opened Black Friday 2019, so things are still coming together". Let's be clear, if things were this bad nearly two months later I can't imagine what it was like when the place opened.
They are also using despoable plastic utensils in their dining area which is super wasteful.
After a decent amount of wait time for to go food we got our order and took it home to eat it. The food was lackluster to borderline not very good. the presentation and portions are good, but it wasn't something I wanted to finish and waste the calories on. I wasn't what I typically expect from True Flavor's and something that you could easily get at any other local biscuit place or fast food place. Bojangles honestly has better biscuits. The biscuits were large, but burnt and not very fluffy. Slathering them in cheese and butter seems like their way of overcoming the burnt aspect. The chicken was eh-fine... but also nothing amazing. The grits just had a lot of dumped on shredded cheese and the Mac & cheese was basic. My wife was not a fan of the BBQ Brisket biscuit and she LOVES brisket.
I'd be willing to try this place again in a few months if they ever manage to get it together. The service was terrible, the location itself had poor cleanliness and the food was lackluster, but I've had such great experiences at the Southwest Durham location I'm championing this place to prove that its worth it, but so every experience here was...
Read moreLet me preface with: you never know what people are going through. I HOPE you think before you speak to your willing-to-pay customers in the future. For me and mine, you won’t be receiving our business nor will anyone we know. You could have been part of our “story” in a positive way, but now, you put a damper on a beautiful day. I called this morning to get breakfast for my Uncle who just had a successful kidney transplant and my Aunt who was with him and it was her birthday today. This would have been his FIRST real meal after surgery! He was so hungry only being able to have broth since Tuesday morning. He wanted a gravy biscuit so bad!! When I called, the lady was EXTREMELY rude and HUNG up on me when I simply asked for directions from within the complex. The gps doesn’t take you directly to their restaurant and it’s not labeled as Debbie Lou’s. I asked again to clarify the directions and she says “LIKE I SAID MULTIPLE TIMES” in a loud, rude tone. I said ma’am I’m not from here there’s no need to get an attitude, and she said “well I’m sorry you feel that way” and hung up. Absolutely zero customer service and CARE. I searched another biscuit shop, and drove to Rise where Brenna took extra care of my order, the food was fantastic, but most of all, she CARED and didn’t treat me with such COLD disregard like you all did. Please in the future, watch how you speak and treat people. You never know what they are going through. My uncle almost died and we could have used a little bit...
Read moreHorrible experience. Restaurant does not close until 2 walked in at 1:15 and was no one was at the hostess stand so we begin to walk in and as soon as we take a few steps we are greeted with one of the rudest greetings I have ever experienced at a restaurant. The lady rudely says how can I help you very abruptly and loud letting it be known we were not welcomed then begins to tell us she can not seat us because the restaurant just stopped seating and take out had just stopped. Then tells us someone will be here to greet us at 7:30 tomorrow morning and points towards the door letting us know we need to leave. I felt highly disrespected even if she was having a bad day there is a way to speak to customers especially first time customers we just moved to this area and we definitely will never be coming back. It's a very unwelcome vibe. Then she begins to walk back to the side with two other employees and talk. She literally was doing nothing else but talking not serving, cleaning or anything but so I'm guessing she doesn't want anyone else to come in so she didn't have to do anymore work and go home early. We went down the street to Briggs and had a very...
