I rarely write reviews or even complain about restaurants.
We've been here before with no problems...until today.
We had 5 adults and 1 infant and went around 12:45pm. The place was pretty empty - two tables with one that looked like they were about done. The girl asked how many we had - I told her 5 and one infant. She asked us if we just wanted a 4 top and pull up a chair. The tables are small and there was no way that 5 adults and a baby would fit. We asked if we could put two tables together and she said "I guess - let me clear one of the tables". "I guess"?? I don't feel that is acceptable and is not the best start to our dining experience but not anything worth getting upset over.
The same girl took our drink orders brought everyone's drink but mine and continued serving the other tables. I had to flag her down for my coffee. Strike 2 but again things happen.
We order our food and one person asked for their hash browns extra crispy. And one of us ordered pancakes with our meal.
When our food came, there was not nearly enough syrup for the pancakes, the hash browns weren't crispy and the orange juice that was ordered was not brought to the table. This is a bad pattern but again...things happens. We would just let her know when she checked on our table. However, that check in never came... more people arrived at the restaurant. We didn't want our food to get cold so we started to eat, everyone's beverages ran low or empty and eventually we had to flag her down. As soon as we did (the meal was close to half over) she immediately said..."oh do you want your orange juice now?" Really? No we ordered it a long time ago and want it after we are done eating. We also asked for more coffee but they said they had to make more (it wasn't brewing yet - by the way they have 8 coffee burners). She didn't bring more syrup for the pancakes and the hash browns she said "sure no problem". Moments later she came back with a plate and asked us to scrape the hash browns from our plate to a new place and she would bring them back into the kitchen.
At this point, the line has been crossed. There has been screw up after screw up and mistake after mistake and now you want to bring our half eaten hash browns back into the kitchen to crisp up? I've worked and managed restaurants and let me tell you...bringing fresh ones should have been done and an apology should have been made and if they are really worried about food costs...potatoes are one of the cheapest things for a restaurant to buy and serve. Definitely worth just bringing fresh ones so you keep happy customers and repeat business. All of a sudden, an older woman comes out from the kitchen with the hash browns. We were a bit stunned that fresh ones weren't made and mentioned something to this woman (who appeared to be the manager). She said well the server didn't put it on the ticket that the hash browns needed to be crispy and walked away. No apology or further attempt to make it right?? And there were additional issues after that. I'm very curious if there was a health code in violation there.
When we went to the counter to pay, my husband asked the server if that woman (the one from the kitchen) was a manager...she rudely said "she's my mom!". He asked here again - "ok but is she the manager." She said yes. So, not only was the server rude and gave terrible service but the manager as well?? By far the worst customer service we've ever received at any restaurant by far. Despite wanting to leave a $0 tip (both my husband and I have been servers before) we decided to take the high road and leave a good tip in the hopes that something will sink in with both of them.
I'm so stunned, appalled and embarrassed for our out of town family I'd give them 0 stars if I could. They said "we've never seen anything like that in our lives." We will NEVER, EVER go back. Amelia's in Oconomowoc or Christina's in Waukesha have much better food and customer service. Stay away! You're wasting your...
Read moreI was a big fan of the Hen House for years. I was upset when it was closed. My daughter and I visited for breakfast this morning. The new menu was good and the food was good. The issue that I had was that during our visit we heard the male worker cooking verbally berate a young female waitress for not knowing what was included in a certain combo meal. He raised his voice and in my view was very disrespectfully. My daughter commented to me that a number of the staff were nervous or on edge. This made me really upset and uncomfortable during my visit. There is no reason ever to speak to an employee in the fashion and certainly the male cook should have the common sense not to verbally berate an employee in front of customers. I will no longer be patronizing...
Read moreThe food needs a lot more attention. My breakfast was very oily, some was undercooked and some over cooked. Personally, I will not be back and would not recommend. We waited to be seated and while waiting a regular customer walks in with his newspaper, passes by several people waiting for a table. He heads to what we assumed is his usual booth, by himself which seats four. The staff overlooked this and waited on him right away. That did not sit well with other customers waiting to be seated as well. Overall, a very disappointing experience. NOTE: We had brought this to their attention and the food replacement was the...
