Smillie's Family Restaurant — Restaurant in East Huntingdon Township

It's very neighborly. The staff was pleasant enough. It just seems as though the small time place got complacent. I have only been here a few times. They know a lot of the locals names and preferences.

First time was not a good experience, what I'm assuming were the owners kind of lounging around and yelling back and forth from across the dining room. Sure it's their place of business, but it's a place of business.

Today was a bit different. It was quiet. My wife and I were apparently the first customer of the morning. Again, staff was pleasant and helpful. The fresh made coffee tasted like yesterday's coffee... Maybe the machine or the coffee itself.

The coffee mugs (at least mine) was very stained. Gave me an unclean feeling.

The food was OK too. Nothing to do backflips for and come back but OK. I think the sausage is the bulk stuff from Sam's/Walmart and the bacon was either deep fried or something, very crispy and off in flavor. The home fries I had, have potential . They're Just potatoes. Nothing else. Maybe if they'd Brown them more or add some sort of seasoning to make them Smileys. The eggs, we ordered over medium, we got 2 over easy and 2 over hard.

There was no music.

I really want this place to succeed, I love local places, but take a trip to Connellsville to check out the Diner there. They have unique food items and quality...

1)- Hair found on the Ham 2)- Bacon cooked way to Krispy 3)- Sausage Gravy tasted like the kind you buy from Dollar General 😯 4)- Hash Brown -- nope wasn't touching it 5)- Silverware seen way better days 6)- BB/Pellet hole marks in Glass where it had been shot at 🤔 7)- No Service by waiter/cook didn't even ask how my dining experience was 8)- Eggs/Toast cooked properly which surprised me - Decent Soft Drink amount with meal

Normally little Mom n Pop establishments have way better food than the Big Chain Restaurants but this place was the roll of the dice 🎲 Not coming back here again and I...

Small place, wanted to try something new. Coffee was where the 1st issue was. It was burnt in the pot before for sure. A nice proper cleaning may be needed for the pot and the machine. The server was friendly, though a large group came in while they were making out food, which seems that they pushed ours out a little too soon. The potatoes were still white and luke warm. The syrup was awful, and I honestly suggest trying a new brand that doesn't taste like pine sol. The eggs were cooked well and the toast, that's why I even gave a 1 for food.
