It was a terrible experience!! Don't let the cute Dutch exterior sway you!!!! Upon entering there were COVID related signs everywhere, like a paranoid person had hung them. It was a bit dirty and run down, chairs being used to block basement stairs, I envisioned a child, like my own waiting in line to enter jumping up to set in one and toppling down the stairs. Once through the hallway you enter a menagerie of knick knacks and tchotchkes, definitely NOT AMISH items...just a trap. The old man behind the wall of plexiglas at the counter was rude and belligerent. He was pushing samples of sho-fly pie, which they claim is the best in Lancaster and if you declined which I did because I can't have sugar he got extremely defensive so my friend and I took a plate and he yells in a demanding voice to step away from the counter and go to back wall to eat. There was no one near us and we were 8 feet from counter. I asked were the waste basket was to throw away the forks and plates and he stuck his hand out and touched our dirty forks...he Clearly doesn't understand cross contamination. I had planned to by a pie because my daughter loves it, I was about to order he came running around the counter to scream and I do mean scream at a young girl for not having her mask over her nose. She apologized several times and tried to explain to which the entire store emptied out, including my friend and me. I would never recommend as long as its owned by this clown. Felt bad for his employees. HORRIBLE MAN!!! If you want good Sho-fly pie got to Stolfuzus meats 14 Center St, Intercourse, PA 17534 they have the same recipe as far as I am concerned. And I should add he is in code violation by keeping his front door locked so you can get but not out...highly illegal! I will be...

I love this place. I see there are a few negative reviews here and I'm surprised. I live about an hour and 45 minutes away and have been coming to Lancaster every spring and summer for close to 20 years and my first stop is always Dutch Haven. This place is a landmark and if it wasn't there Lancaster...for me...wouldn't be the same. I'm surprised by some of the negative comments because in all the years coming here no one has ever been rude to me and they're always friendly. I love the Shoo Fly Pie and during this pandemic and not being able to come here the last 2 seasons have been drooling for it. I finally made it down here this past weekend and was happy to see the place again. Have I purchased Shoo fly elsewhere in Lancaster for cheaper? Sure. Actually there's a nearby bakery with great pie for about half the price but that's not the point. As I said before. This place is a landmark...a staple...and a treasure and I love and support it. Believe me. I've been here quite often. You don't have to take my word for it nor do you have to take the word of the other reviews. Give it a shot and make your own decision. Personally after 18 years of great pie and staff it's all...

Not having had shoo-fly pie in years due to being out of state, I wanted to get a piece of the best for my birthday. So, I drove from York all the way to Dutch Haven just for the pie.

I was thinking the whole way their pie had better be as good as they claimed.

I've had a lot of shoo fly pie in my life, it's my favorite. I've had good ones and not so good ones so I had a pretty decent frame of reference when I got this pie.

I was slightly worried when I walked in to the place because it smells a bit musty... but so do many places in PA.

I ordered my piece of pie to go, they tried really hard to give me a free sample, they also offered to warm up my pie and add whipped cream which I declined because I wasn't going to eat it until later in the day. Everyone was super nice and the piece of pie was reasonably priced.

So later comes, I eat the pie and OMG

This is the greatest shoo fly pie I have ever had. It had a perfect sweet and salty balance which is important because most shoo fly pie is just a mass of gooey sugar and way too sweet.

It was so good, I would absolutely drive over an hour in Lancaster traffic...

Their Shoo-Fly pies are their No# 1 pies and their Pecan pies are their No# 2 top selling pies. I got a Shoo-Fly, Cherry and Chocolate Pecan pies. They were all delicious, and the Chocolate Pecan pie is my favorite. The store is unique. Majority of the store is filled with merchandise/souvenirs, and the pie counter is in the back where the register is. A couple of years later, I returned and got another chocolate pecan pie, and I also got a peach pie and root beer. The root beer was somewhat flat, and the peach pie reminded me of canned peaches in gelatin. It is definitely not my favorite. I baked the peach pie hoping the gelatin would melt, but it didn't seem to change much. While eating the pie, my stomach started feeling some discomfort and hours later, I got real sick. I'm not sure if it was the peach pie, but not taking any changes, I threw it out. I had the root beer the night before, and another glass while eating the peach pie. Not sure what happened. I will stick to the shoo-fly and chocolate pecan pies.

As soon as I walked in I was greeted with an offer to taste their homemade shoofly pie which I happily accepted. This pie is so delicious there are no words to describe it. They have a variety of pies for sale including blueberry and peach and more. Dutch Haven is definitely a place to visit to purchase collectible-type items and souvenirs. I have to mention the amazing woodworking items that you can find here; benches, bird houses, cabinets, and rocking chairs, etc. all of which are locally crafted. Dutch Haven is easily accessible, located on Route 30 in Lancaster County, and worth the trip to buy their delicious pies!

If I could give it less stars I would. Several subtle and not so subtle hints that this place is not for families, including signage that kids have to stay with parents and no strollers allowed. Then there was the attached sign which is offensive IMO. Would never suggest this as a stop while in the area. We did walk in briefly and turned and left as I had made up my mind I would not buy anything. In our very brief stroll, I didn’t see a thing I would be interested in buying. Reminded me of those little chintzy beachfront shops. Hard pass.
