We had a latte, batch brew, flat white, long black and the strawberry matcha for our drinks. HB uses Proud Mary coffee for their espresso, and today for their batch they had another one of Proud Mary’s coffees. The latte and flat white had a wonderfully sweet taste to them. I would recommend not having any syrup and just tasting it as is since the roast of the espresso is already well crafted. If I get a long black next time I come I will just ask for it 3/4 full since it was a little watery for my taste. However it still tasted delicious and not burnt at all. The batch was a little underwhelming, and we weren’t sure if that was a recipe issue or if the beans were aging.
For breakfast we got the Turkish-ish Breakfast, Pork Belly Chao Dan and The Roll. All of the food was visually stunning and exciting to taste. The Roll was amazing to look at as a burger, however each of its components were so amazing that we felt like it would better fit its ingredients as a breakfast platter with sourdough bread. But that is a very small critique, and it still held up in its quality. My Pork Belly Chao Dan was a delightful experience— to be having spicy scrambled eggs along side crispy, sweet pork belly. HB’s sambal hot sauce is always worthy to bring home if we do not finish it there.
It was a bit chilly throughout our visit; and from when we got there at 8:00 it took maybe 30 minutes til the staff put on music. But overall the environment was lovely and welcoming. It was my fourth time here, and I’m always excited to return. Please never get rid of using Proud Mary as...
Read moreMy partner and I were really looking forward to our visit, especially after having such a great experience in the past but unfortunately, this time was disappointing.
He added the truffle fries to his sandwich, but the menu add on didn’t mention that they’d come completely covered in mayonnaise, a condiment he doesn’t enjoy. When he politely asked the counter staff about it, the response was, “We can ring you in for more,” which felt dismissive and unhelpful, especially since he couldn’t eat the original order. Why would you charge us again?
My power bowl was also missing key components: the purple sauerkraut and shaved vegetables. When I asked about it, I was given pickled onions instead. For a dish where balance and fresh ingredients matter, it would have been appreciated to know in advance if they were out of elements I was expecting.
At the end of the meal, I got up to order a tea and dessert to go but by then the staff had begun cleaning up, and I was told it was too late to place an order, even though it was just after 8 (8:05) and the staff member had only just returned to the counter.
We drove in from York and brought my grandmother along, hoping to enjoy a relaxing evening. Sadly, the experience felt rushed and lacking in hospitality. It was clear the staff was more focused on closing than on guest satisfaction. Given how much we enjoyed our last visit, this was a letdown and I’m not sure we’d return after this...
Read moreI’ll admit; as I have been driving by your cafe before your opening, I was a bit cynical. I knew nothing of what was to come except for what I read on the sign. Many local establishments generate decent concept but then fail in the execution. I ventured into your place this evening and am fully enamored! My initial evaluation of the interior design delighted me as it was the first cafe entered in years where gray wasn’t the primary decorating color. I studied everything to the quality of plants. “This is a pleasant surprise”, I thought to myself still sarcastically thinking the menu would be the usual. I was thankfully wrong. First on my agenda was something to drink; I selected the berry green tea with mint. Unbelievable! Had to order another even though I was full. My entree was the vermicelli salad..... CULINARY FLAVOR EXPLOSION!
I moved my business to Bird in Hand over three years ago and am cemented to this area. I have tried to find something of culinary value within this area to no avail. I can easily say, your cafe is by far the most yielding of quality and edible depth that Smoketown has ever seen. I am elated to discover your establishment as I have been completely misled in my local search for flavor. Thank you, for “getting it” and doing it right. Food is the greatest form of art as it appeals to the most senses. The canvas of your cafe yields artful taste and I can feel the passion poured into it...
