First off: this is a cafeteria-style eatery. For the most part you serve yourself. You can get everything from a bag of chips to a gourmet plate. However, you'll be hard-pressed to find much of anything that's not wildly overpriced.
Secondly: good good luck getting anything that's supposed to be hot that's still hot by the time you sit down to eat it.
Thirdly: the quality is inconsistent. Much of the time, the mushroom soup is excellent! But other times it's got a chalky or lumpy consistency, it's overly salty, or it's short on mushrooms.
Two relatively low-priced items I would recommend are the fries and the mac & cheese.
The fries seem to be lightly battered and are almost crispy enough for me. Unfortunately, they suffer from the problem of being frequently not hot enough.
The mac and cheese is pretty darn cheesy & creamy, with what appears to be an interesting blend of cheeses. Points off, though, for not using whole wheat pasta!
They sell all kinds of drinks, including tea, soda, wine, and coffee. You can get these bottled. Another popular option are the fountain drinks. Unfortunately the dispenser is often malfunctioning or completely out of order. The latter you are not told before you buy the cup in which to dispense your fountain beverage.
They used to have fresh brewed tea & sliced lemons at the fountain drink counter, but those are gone and are sorely missed! Also, last time I was there, the hot coffe & tea counter had no tea available.
Finally, they did away with the stainless flatware and ow provide flimsy utensils that frequently break with normal usage.
So, to recap: overpriced, inconsistent quality, inappropriate...
Read moreThe food here is terrible and overpriced. We got the "three cheese" Mac and cheese, it was similar to a boxed Kraft Mac and cheese and nothing about it screamed it's 7 dollar price tag for the small portion size given. The chili was similar to a canned chili, no fresh ingredients seemed to be used and it smelled the same as if it were out of a can. Taste wise it was a canned chili as well. Lastly the chicken tenders ( 9.75 for 5 small tenders ) had awful breading and no flavor. The tenders weren't fried well and the breading was as thick as some dry wall and has the consistency of it too with the dryness and sharp texture as it peeled off the tender in one bite.
Total bill was 24.92, for the quality of food a chipotle or cava would be ten times better. It's disappointing to see that even a McDonald's could produce better food and at a better price.
The worst part is you can't re-enter if you choose to leave the gardens. I'm fine avoiding this restaurant but there are no other affordable options ( this one isn't even affordable for the...
Read moreThe "casual" 1906, good food at a lower price point. Due to COVID all ordering was taken outside in the Beer Garden area. You ordered the food, picked the table, and the server would bring it to you in a brown paper bag. We were surprised at the quality of the food in the setting of a "fast food" environment. The chicken tender basket was great, all white meat with good favor. Pasta carbonara was excellent, many bacon bits and herb. The Chicken Harrissa with side salad was flavorful with fresh green and pinto beans. The beer list could be better, but it covered the seasonal beers well. You do not have a long list, but what you have there are decent.
Overall it was a pleasant outing, and we would come back again to enjoy the food and the ambient of the garden. Expect to pay a bit more, in range of a decent restaurant, but quality does not...
