We are here for a family visit. Davis Bros was my husband’s favorite pizza growing up in East Peoria. So 3 of us decided to go and share a pizza. Walking in the place was smoky, we thought maybe a burnt pizza? Had to pass 6 tables before we found one that was semi-clean. I took a stack of napkins off a nearby empty table to wipe the crumbs off the chairs and attempted to wipe the table. We arrived around 4PM, there were 2 other tables (a table of 4 and a single) We ordered drinks and a small cheese and medium deluxe at the same time. More customers started to arrive and during the 50 minutes we waited for our pizza, we noticed a table of 4 got served before us (maybe they called it in?) then another table of 2 got served. Finally we asked a waitress to check on our order. She came back to our table and said, yours should be right up, that table was #50 and you are #58, your order was put in at 4:50. I said something is not right we got here at 4PM. We were told we could help ourselves to the salad bar (good try, but that should have been offered immediately, when they realized they made a mistake, not the “yours is coming out soon” answer.) After another 10 minutes, we offered to pay for our drinks, but wanted to leave. As we were walking out the waitress, ran toward us and said your pizza is coming out now. We said, OK put we’ll take it to go. As we stood there waiting she went back to the kitchen and brought 3 pizzas out - not for us - for carryout, then it took about 5 more min to actually get the pizzas. She took 50% off the pizzas. We we got home the deluxe was ok. The small cheese, was ½ baked and looked like it as thrown in the box. The sign outside said “Under New Management”. You should be “OVER’ new management. Suggestions: clean your pizza oven, almost every person walking in mentioned how smoky it was. When a customer leaves a table should be wiped down with a cleaner and cloth, not just remove the dishes (especially during COVID recover) We understand almost everyone is short staffed now, maybe limit the number of people based on the capacity of your staff. Most of your reviews blame employees, that maybe part of the problem. Leadership is the answer to most problems, put a good leader in place and I’m certain the restaurant can earn back the great reputation...

The beginning of a long day full of unexpected traveling.
Davis Bros is one of those local places that everyone seems to love but one I had never tried until 2014. That is until a bunch of us had a work meeting and then decided to get food afterwards. That lead us to going to Davis Bros pizza based on Eli’s suggestion.
We rolled up in the late afternoon to an empty restaurant. As seems to be my luck, we always seem to get to places that are in a lull between meals. The three of us grabbed a booth and got to looking over the menu. If memory serves me right, I told Matt and Eli to order whatever they wanted and I will go along with it as I was new to this place and sometimes I just like to take a backseat to things instead of always being in charge. What Eli and Matt ordered, I don’t recall except the sausage on it was not sausage I like.
I will be the first to claim ignorance on pizza toppings despite being a pizza lover. When it comes to sausage, there is the good kind that I like and the bad kind that I don’t like. The one I don’t like is the one that resembles ground hamburger. For whatever reason that I can’t explain, I am not a fan of it but alas, that is what came on our pizza. Aside from the pizza being littered with those faux pas sausage chunks, it was a decent pizza. Not one that I would drool over if someone mentioned “Davis Bros” in my presence. I don’t mean that to sound too harsh as I am willing to give them another try, just without sausage on the next one. (And yes, after writing this post I did Google the difference between pizza sausages to avoid that mistake in the future.)
What I do like is that this place lead to a long and entertaining night with Eli and Matt up in the Quad Cities. What exactly happened up there in the Isle of Capri Casino is a story for another day. I will say it ended with Eli being 56’d by Security and us driving home at like 2am. If you know that code 56 is, then you can guess what happened. 😛
P.S. – Davis Bros. does sell frozen pizzas in the local markets around this area. Maybe that’s what people rave about. So, if you can’t make it to the restaurant, you can always pick up a frozen one to...
Read moreIN todays economy most business are fighting to improve service and quality to hang onto their market base. This is not the case with Davis brothers Pizza.
I took my family in on Thursday September 16th. We ordered a familt size supreme. It was advertised as a 16" pizza. Wrong, my son who is ten decided to use my tape measure and measure it off. It came out to less than 14 inches, not what was advertised. We discussed it witht he waitress who promptly told us this was the family size. We pointed out the discrepancy in the size. She wasn't impressed and would not discount the pizza which by the way was 23.00. Pretty high for what we received. We left and I was not impressed. My son however did like the pizza, and asked if he could bring his friends in on Saturday night.
September 18 found me back in the East Peoria location with 4 kids. We again ordered (2) family sized supremes, 16 inch family sized. Again the pizzas did not measure up. Both were under 14 inches. I again asked the waitress to look at the size and again was given the cold shoulder. During both visits at no time were we offered refils on our 1.75 sodas, again pretty expensive for the product and service. Our bill Saturday came to: $55.00. This time I decided to deduct the difference in the pizza size and I also had my receipt from the last time. I only paid for pizzas that were the size we received and they did not like it. They threatened calling the police to which I said to "go for it" and I paid cash for the adjusted bill and left.
We we really not impressed with any of the ingredients, the quality or the amount of product on the pizza. They are very cheap with putting anything on the pizza. I guess you could call it good marketing, I call it a rip off. Now add to the price an over priced soda, with no refills, and you can see the cost for the meal is way over priced.
Our family will not eat here again, They were good many years ago but...
