Let me preface this review by saying I am a former restaurant and bar owner with over 25 years hands-on experience in the business. So it really requires a totally bad and unacceptable situation for me to post anything negative about a restaurant, as I know first-hand what a tough, grinding business it can be. Apparently Sandy and Janet, the “Golden Girls” who are the new owners of what was formerly Flavors on the Vine in Eastlake, have NO clue.
On Saturday, July 3rd we stopped in for breakfast. Lisa, who we knew from Flavors, was our delightful server. I ordered the Country Omlette with no modifications. My wife ordered the Greek Omlette and specifically asked to have both the feta cheese and green peppers left out. The food came quickly but my wife’s omlette had the feta cheese in it as well as mushrooms (which were not listed as one of the ingredients in the Greek Omlette). My wife pointed this out to Lisa who cheerfully apologized and took it back for a remake. About 4 minutes later, she returned with a freshly cooked omlette and this time it again had the feta cheese, and now also had green peppers and mushrooms but was missing the supposed-to-be- included diced tomatoes. By now I was half finished with my meal and my wife, not being one to complain, insisted I not bring this second mistake to Lisa’s attention. She took just a few bites and then asked Lisa for a to-go box. I again suggested I tell our server about the second mistake but she again did not want me to, saying she would feed it to our dogs who were in the car as we were headed out with them for the day.
So Lisa brings us the check and my wife takes the to-go box out to the car. I head up to the register to pay the check and Lisa asks if everything was OK because she noticed my wife hardly touched her omlette. Now I had to say something and I explained what had happened with the second incorrectly made omlette. Lisa apologized profusely and said she was going to take my wife’s Greek Omlette off the check—which was the right thing to do, especially since the kitchen made not just one mistake, but two on the same order. But before she could do so, she had to get the approval from one of the owners (I believe it was Sandy) who was in the kitchen.
Lisa printed out the check and it clearly showed she had input the order correctly specifying NO cheese and NO peppers and nowhere did it say to add mushrooms or hold the diced tomatoes. Lisa showed the check proving it was not her ordering mistake but that of the kitchen not paying close attention to the orders coming in to them. I watched Lisa and the owner converse back and forth for about 4 minutes (yes, I timed it!) and then Lisa comes back and asks me “where is the omlette?” I told her my wife was feeding it to the dogs in the car. So she goes back to the kitchen and explains this to the owner who turns around and looks at me standing at the register and then turns back around and converses in a highly animated manner for another 2 minutes with Lisa. So now Lisa returns to the cashier stand and tells me that she can’t take the omlette off the check unless I bring it back in, which by this time of course, I could no longer do as the dogs had eaten it. I asked her why and she said “that’s what the owner said—she wants to see it” which made me feel as if I was being called a liar or just looking for a freebie.
I asked Lisa what the owner would then do with the omlette had I been able to bring it back in and she said it would have been thrown in the trash. By now Lisa was feeling very uncomfortable about the entire ordeal, apologized again for not being able to do the right thing and deduct the omlette from the check. I smile politely paid the entire check and still gave her a 20% tip, turned around and left.
That was the last time we will ever set foot in Golden Girls. Go to Anthony's across the street where you are treated with warmth and appreciation--better food and a...
Read moreThe food is the reason for the stars. It was just OK. In fact, some was not very good at all. For instance, the garlic shrimp over pasta, was just not good. Very little garlic and most certainly not true garlic butter. My meatloaf was OK. BUT if you cover meatloaf with brown gravy for service, do not bake it w ketchup. The flavors together were not tasty. The salad bar is smaller than when it was Flavors, though that is actually a good thing. Less stuff on the bar, less possibility of it going bad. They also have signs everywhere requesting you either use plastic gloves (which are provided right there) or sanitizer (also right there) before using salad bar tongs etc. Very nice touch. The soups were loaded baked potato and chicken noodle. While they were fine I suspect they were not "homemade." Then there was chicken fried steak dinner with "country gravy." It was NOT country gravy it was sausage gravy. They are distinctly different things. I realize they are new(ish) and will give them another chance, but this time was not up to what I am sure they can do. Kudos, though to Shellie (with and "ie" as she told us). She was on it without being cloying. I will update this as...
Read moreJust stopped here for a bite to eat,I heard Gordon Ramsay helped them and was so excited to try! We started off with the jalapeño poppers they were so fresh the breading have it a nice crunch! They are a little messy one bite and it falls apart but other than that amazing. Next we tried the coconut shrimp the breading was crisp and the sauce with it was amazing I highly recommend! After that we moved on to our entrees I got the meatloaf and it was awesome my only complaint was the green beans. They were slightly undercooked pretty crunchy and didn’t have any seasoning they were fresh but flavorless. We also had gotten the patty melt which was good and the country fried steak meal the mushroom gravy is out of this world so much flavor! My one and only complaint was the atmosphere… this being said the design aspect of it was cool but it was so quite inside it almost made it uncomfortable no music or anything I felt like I had to whisper or everyone was going to be listening into our conversations. My advice add some light music for background noise it will make the guests feel more comfortable while dining . Other than that great experience we definitely will be back! Good...
