Over the last 2 years I've been saving restaurants/Cool Places to check out in my Google maps app. That can be anywhere near Orlando, around Florida, or wherever state I travel to! After saving like 300+ restaurants, I made the decision to start trying something new at least once a week that isn't fast food or just highly processed stuff.
Today, I started with Kookn W Kim here in Orlando/winter park area! To simply put it, it tastes just like home. Every bite I took, took me through some childhood memories of my grandma Hazel Lyons or Matty Young cooking some of the best southern cooking. Even the meals my parents have cooked me throughout my life (Curtis Lyons / Katrina Lyons)
The black eyed peas was spectacular. It wasn't mushy at all. Still had some texture. The light chicken & yellow rice was a perfect combination with the peas. I just mixed that bad boa up with the peas and I was set.
The Mac n cheese????? SHEEEEEEIT tasted like my mom's top tier mac n cheese. In my family, I used to be known as a Mac n cheese connoisseur. I remember vividly, going to my Aunty Felicia Hodge house as a kid and she had me try her Mac n cheese before the family reunion to see if it was good or something needed to be changed. Can't believe she trusted me lololol
The chicken was well seasoned all around. Wasn't dry at all. Crispy and juicy! I love me a good thigh and them thighs were thigh'n lololol
I tried the red velvet cake and boa it tasted like good 🐈⬛ 😂😂😂😂 I haven't had a good red velvet cake in YEEAAARSSSS so this was refreshing. Without the cake, everything was under $20 ... Which is CRAZY. I couldn't eat it all. This is two meals in one.
9.5/10 ... I knocked .5 off cause there was no ac in that muhg lololol ... I can't have this TOO often but it's an excellent cheat.
CHECK THEM OUT! You won't be...
Read moreI absolutely love this restaurant! I have had most of the food on the menu and there isnt anything that is not cooked to perfection. the greens tender and flavorful and available with and without pork. Macaroni and cheese is perfect...I could list all of the sides and entree' and I would have positive comments and full flavor descriptions of them all! but there isnt enough time or space! The portions are perfect. I have purchased one plate of 3 sides and 3 pieces of chicken (fried or baked are both amazing) and fed myself and 4 coworkers!
CONS: The ONLY reason I did not rate 5 stars is because the service can be very slow--they have customers order and pay before the next customer can order--some foods are in the back and fresh made so as you can imagine this holds up the line quite a bit. For example: If the person in front of me is waiting on something that has to be made and I am on a lunch break and just trying to order from the line, I dont always have time to wait. Pre-order when you can! Also, no one who works there is really "friendly." They don't smile and they are not welcoming or patient as you order. Great food yes, great service: not so much.
TIPS: know what you want, don't expect a smile, expect to wait, there arent very many tables, so carry out, and do not be alarmed if Ms. Kim comes out and is yelling at the workers lol--scared me to death the first time--I'm used to it now!
I still recommend...
Read moreSo I have to share this story, my best friend lived here in Orlando, and she was telling me about this soul food restaurant. She said it was always a line wrapped around the corner, and that the owners food was not only good but she gives you ALOT of food. Of course, I think she just "talking" . So, when she comes to Florida to visit family and my family, we decide to visit Kim's Kitchen. So we get there, and of course it's a Sunday afternoon, and it was a line outside! Finally we get inside the building and she tells me " that's Ms Kim", the owner. So, I see Ms Kim, not only helping out with servicing the customers but she is putting so much food in the containers! I was like ... Wwwhhat the heck!! 😂 I got two to go plates for me and my daughter and grandson. Y'all, we ate off that food for 3 days no lie. The portions she gives is more than plentiful. There is no way you can eat all her food in one sitting. I have had her collard greens, macaroni and cheese, fried chicken, and smothered pork chops. Hands down, this is the best soul food in the state of Florida. I told Ms Kim, that I was visiting the Orlando area, and whenever I come to town and she is open, she will have a customer! So now that I moved to the Orlando area, I come here at least twice a month! And I tell anyone that wants real soul food to visit Ms...
