Unfortunately the dining experience was deeply disappointing for our party of six at Water's Edge on Sunday, 12/16. Unfortunately, it was our first visit, and it fell far below the standards expected of a fine dining establishment. While the food was tasty, the handling of our entrees overshadowed any enjoyment. One entree was forgotten, causing an unacceptable delay of over 20 minutes. Despite multiple reminders, the staff failed to address the issue promptly. Instead of taking responsibility, our server unprofessionally blamed the kitchen and repeatedly insisted it wasn't her fault. Additionally, another steak ordered rare arrived well done and had to be sent back. Service was inattentive and unprofessional. Restaurants run out of things, it happens; the server should inform the customers of unavailable items prior to taking an order (in our case ran out prior to Sunday PM dinner service starting – not in real time). Multiple hairs were found in our cocktails and on side plates. Our server refused to take starter and entree orders together, citing needing to stagger kitchen timing, despite the restaurant being nearly empty. Additionally, a 20% automatic gratuity was added (fine for a large party) but led to inadvertently tipping WELL over 20% due to the handheld credit card machine defaulting to add 7-15% additional tip in a non-obvious way. The staff seemed overwhelmed and uncoordinated. The manager's apology was undermined by minimal compensation—$19 off a bill exceeding $300. Such lapses in service are disappointing and reflect poorly on the restaurant's reputation. As locals to Midcoast Maine, it's disheartening to think we need to warn others against trying Water's Edge or any affiliated properties based on...
Read moreBeautiful ambiance, my wife and I were seated in nice comfy cushioned wing chairs. We felt like royalty. Our sever was very pleasant, attentive, and very efficient. It started with our dinner rolls. It was taking way too long for them to arrive. A different server came to our table and apologized, stating that she took our dinner rolls and gave them to her table. Ok, not cool, but forgivable. My wife had ordered the roasted quarter chicken, and I ordered the prime rib med rare. Our server brought out our dinners. My wife's chicken was cooked properly and "edible," but the rice was over starchy, I'll get to the veg in a second, my "med rare" prime rib at first glance didn't look bad but it was covered in aujus, it wasn't until I cut in to it I noticed it was med well. Our server was very prompt in checking our table and brought my prime rib back. When she returned with a new cut, I cut into it, and, low and behold, it was med well! The server offered to bring it back again, but I told her, being an executive chef myself, they, without a doubt, overcooked the prime rib and were purposely dunking it in the aujus to try to hide that fact instead of telling the customer that the roast was over cooked. I stated I would just try to eat it. I ate close to half, and she did take half the cost off the bill. Ok, if you're still with me, let's discuss the greenbeans and carrots. Massive amounts of dried Italian herbs, massive, ginormous amounts of dried herbs, so off-putting, they were inedible. I would stay away. I highly recommend staying away. The only reason I gave them the rating I did was solely because...
Read moreWent for their special prix fixe Valentine’s dinner, $75 a person. Not worth it at all. First, they had no hostess and no bar tender. The staff was overwhelmed to say the least. The salads were tasty, as was the lobster bisque, and which was a tad salty. The onion soup was just beef broth, a few onions and a sad piece of toast. We both had the filet mignon, which while cooked correctly, was only about 1/2 “ thick. And they were absolutely smothered in a Gorgonzola sauce. Looked more like a white gravy you would serve with country fried steak. My wife had the passion fruit flan which she said was bitter. The cheesecake was ok. This whole meal took over 2 hours, and would probably still be there if I didn’t flag down the one busboy for our check. We had one waitress who took our order, never to be seen again at our table until she asked if we wanted more wine when we were waiting for our check. The poor woman bringing out the courses had no clue who had what… felt bad for her. The original waitress never once checked in with us. I would expect a thin steak covered in cheese sauce at Applebees, not for $75 a person. Total bill for two with each having a class of wine was $183 before tip. They advertised this as a “romantic setting complete with soft candlelight to set the perfect mood”. Think cafeteria style lighting with no candles anywhere. No romance whatsoever. This would be a disaster of a first date. Never again shall we dine there. Oh, and the parking lot…. The...
