TL:DR: Poor Food, Gross Drinks & Really Bad Attitude.. ahem I mean Service.
This place used to be great, but something changed and not for the better. My sister and I went out for dinner here with my boyfriend, bringing our Bucky Books since they have a coupon for $10 off any entrée.
From the start, our server had an attitude. When he mistakenly brought two frozen margaritas instead of the one we ordered, he shot us rude looks when we clarified we only wanted one. (For what it’s worth, the margarita was good, warm and cozy kind of good so I gave two stars in the Food category for that.)
My boyfriend was frustrated by the portion sizes, though he admitted the refried beans were the best he’s ever had. I agree they were really well~made. But that’s where the compliments end. My beef chimichanga? Completely inedible. It was so overloaded with juices that the inside of the tortilla was white and soggy despite the outside looking fried. It ruined the whole thing. My sister’s chicken chimichanga didn’t have the same issue, but she still left most of it untouched, shaking her head about how much this place has gone downhill.
The biggest letdown? Her Horchata. She was so excited to order it only to be served some weird, watery milk with a gritty texture. When we politely let the server know, he just glared at us and said, “Well, what do you want me to do?” Uh… maybe not charge us for it? Instead, he just walked away.
To top it all off, my boyfriend started sweating and feeling awful before we even finished, so he went to the car while we got our checks. That’s when we were told we both couldn’t use a coupon, even though the printed terms clearly said “one per customer.” We had separate checks, so it should’ve been honored. When I pushed back, the server got snippy, so I told him I’d be reflecting this in my review. That’s when he went to another employee, came back, and suddenly allowed it “just this once.”
By then, the damage was done. Between the bad food, bad drinks, and really bad service, there was no saving this experience. The final cherry on top? The receipt had suggested tip amounts starting at 20%. I genuinely struggled to leave any tip, but somehow still left the industry standard of 18% for reasons only God himself knows.
And uhhh why is there a random vending machine offering only American snacks inside? Pretty sad that their customers feel hungry enough to eat from a vending machine before they leave. (If they’re not feeling sick.) For me & my sister, we fought the sick feeling only...
Read moreThis restaurant is very small. Its shape is long and narrow. And they have so many tables and chairs stuffed in there, it is positively claustrophobic. I went there to pick up some carry out (for the first time) and couldn't wait to get out of there. Additionally, I was there to scope out the possibility of taking a couple friends there for dinner the following week, one of whom is extremely overweight. My overweight friend would have been awfully uncomfortable in the chairs there because the chairbacks are curved to fit the size of someone who is small to average size. This restaurant would NOT be a good place to take either a large person, or someone in a wheelchair. Or someone who is claustrophobic.
When I got home and opened the food containers, the food presentation was sloppy, with everything looking like it was all slipped in there together. It tasted fine, though. No complaints about the taste.
The only positive about this place was the man who helped me with my order. He was pleasant. He is the only reason I didn't make this rating one star.
There are many options for Mexican food. I will not be choosing this...
Read moreYeah, I was hot, tired and starving when I entered this nice little dive of a Mexican place. It was exactly what I needed in the moment. Air conditioning. Chips and cold beer appearing almost instantly by friendly and fast staff. I placed my order and it came out in like 4 minutes flat. Not exactly authentic or challenging food, but sometimes wisconsinified Mexican is exactly what you need. Chips were freshly fried. Salsa was mild and canned tomato saucy, but who cares, it was delicious. Enchiladas probably weren't objectively that great, but like I said, I was starving and I eagerly chowed them down. The refined beans were simply devine. Creamy smooth melt in your mouth goodness. So good. Did I mention the service was excellent?
I'm just passing through. I travel a LOT and always seek out the small family owned Mexican places. I've seen and tasted a lot. Edgerton is lucky to have a...
