Where to start. My wife has celiacs and orderd the classic breakfast with gluten free toast and she let the waitress know about the celiacs allergy. I ordered the Eggs Benedict.
Once the food arrived I remembered something I had long forgotten, US Foods wonderful high quality food fit for hospitals and school cafeterias everywhere. I say US Foods supplies The Hilltop not just because of the lack of quality of the food presented but also because it was written on the menu and tea packets. However the breakfast was cheap and you get what you pay for. Immediately my wife noticed she was served wheat toast not gluten free toast so she asked the waitress to rectify the problem. The solution was to bring out gluten free toast and not replace the contaminated meal. At this point we asked to pay our bill so we could leave and get brunch at Pizza Luce. After paying the bill in full with no discount for my wife's uneaten plate of food the waitress wanted us to know the owner insisted the origional toast that was served was gluten free. My response was simply "We just paid the bill in full so the argument you are trying to start is moot". I will never eat here again and I would recommend anyone with a food allergy or a wish to eat food above nursing home quality avoid this place at all costs. This story has a happy ending. Pizza Luce was delicious and the waitress was wonderful and...
Read moreDecent spot to eat. I went on a Saturday afternoon/evening so it was pretty busy. The staff kept up very well. Everyone was courteous, well involved, and even went beyond what is usually expected (they provided free ice cream to my niece).
The food came out well plated and hot. Drinks seemed endless. The staff here was always right there when you need something, but not hovering.
Their drinks are like everywhere else. Their food is like everywhere else.
There "image" is like EVERYWHERE else.
Which is why this place gets an "Average" review.
There is nothing that makes this place stand apart from the rest.
Having said all that. The food is good enough to stop by for drinks and dinner or appetizers. It's a great place to take your mom, grandma, and other elder relatives... not really a good (but definitely not bad) place for date night.
They do have a sun room where it's actually quite peaceful, so if you're an older couple, it may not seem that bad.
Again, this is a very generic place that I would compare to (but lesser on the list) of Applebee's, Chilli's, and others.
In terms of of food and drink variety: You'll get more from the corner gas station and the Waffle House next to it. But the food will be slightly...
Read moreWe visited The Hilltop on a Sunday for our monthly bookclub meeting. We forgot to make a reservation, but there was only three of us, so it was about a 30 min wait. I would definitely recommend reservations though, especially for groups of more than 4 people. We were seated on the 4 season patio, which is a very nice space, although a bit chilly and drafty. The main restaurant looked really cozy and has a nice bar area. I ordered the South of the Border omlette. The omlette itself was ok, not especially flavorful, the chili needs more seasoning as it tasted mostly of plain tomato sauce. The Orange Cranberry muffin was very tasty, and I appreciated the warm spreadable butter on the side. My friend got the breakfast fried rice, which she seemed to enjoy, but to me looked mostly like your average fried rice. My other friend got the huevos rancheros, she said this was quite good and had a nice kick to it. Service was so, so. Could have been more attentive, but it was busy, so its understandable. Overall with a few minor improvements I could see myself returning as I like the ambiance and would like to try other...
