This is a business that is great because of the sum of its parts. Let me also add that the business side is done well. I'm from Chicago and the ambiance here is perfect from TVs with Sports to the decoration this place has it! Kinda looks like a compound because they have a playground and sports play area in the back. Chicago is a city with a lot of history. Over the last 40 years every one of our Major Sports teams has won a title in their league (Cubs 16, BlackHawks 15 Whit Sox 2005, Bulls 91-93 and 96-98, and Bears 85). I love what they've done to the place. All this with a Southern twist....As has become the trend lately taking after Chick-Fil-A, the staff greet you loudly on the way in and the way out! They are attentive and great and add to the ambiance. So why 4 stars....It comes down to personal preference, nothing they serve that I tasted on my one visit tasted like Chicago. The closest were the Italian Beef and the hot dog. Unfortunately I ordered a combo Beef and sausage, but I only received a beef. I tried their thin crust and it wasn't bad, but it did not taste Chicago to me. The sausage they use tastes kinda sweet almost as if it has brown sugar in it. I cannot comment on the Deep Dish. When I lived in Chicago the Deep Dish always seemed more a gimmick anyway. It didn't taste bad, but I'd be willing to bet that is not Chicagoans go-to Pizza. That is a Celebration Pizza. It does look delicious in their photos. I can't recommend this place, but I will give it another try once we are all safer and I can take my kids and we can have a family night. I did prefer the beef and sausage combo at Mamas and Mama Mias in McAllen. Pretty much all pizza in the valley cannot compare to true Chicago. Let's be honest though. They have Italian delis, Butchers, stores, and authentic products that might not make it all the way down here fresh. That is certainly a consideration. This isn't a bad place and the food isn't bad, it just doesn't hold up to this old Chicagoans heart. I hear the owners might be from Chicago, but I understand their struggle. Thyeve done an excellent try to get Chicago down...
Read moreIn October i went to Cordon's for lunch and i had a swiss and mushroom hamburger that was literally to die for. So fresh ! The bun was delicious, all the ingredients were fresh and tasty. I noticed while i was there that they played some sports games on their big screen tv's. So when the world series was getting ready to be played, i had hoped to watch it on my pc, as i don't have cable tv. Well, my lousy pc would not let me get it. So I called Cordon's and asked them if they would be playing the world series. They said yes, i asked if it would be ok if i came in to watch the game and only get a drink,. They were so courteous and kind and said "of course, you would be most welcome". i got there for the second game and got my drink and sat in a booth. pretty soon a lovely waitress named Julie brought me an order of french fries...on the house !! They invited me to return to watch the rest of the series there and i did. And after the first night, they never let me pay for my drink again, and every employee was courteous, kind, and just plain FUN. They really made me feel SO welcome, and as everyone knows now the Giants took the series ,, they let me stay till the end of the game, and Julie and i jumped and hugged as the Giants won it. I have never had such a fun week in years!! If you want to take your family to a restaurant that offers fantastic food at a reasonable price served by fun and friendly employees, this is the place to go. You can have big parties out back where there is a basketball court and a soccer court. I am telling you, if i am ever asked out to eat, CORDON'S TASTE OF CHICAGO IS THE PLACE TO GO ! THANK YOU ALL FOR LETTING ME WATCH THE SERIES AND FOR PAYING FOR MY DRINK ! YOU GUYS ROCK...
Read moreWhat a nightmare. Ordered 2 pizzas, 1 deep dish, a chicken parm with Alfredo sauce (got charged $4 extra for adding Alfredo, and a side salad. We ordered around 2:00 p.m. on their website, the website said they would text when ready. We waited until after 3:00 p.m and didn't hear anything. We called the restaurant and they acted like we never ordered and it was our fault. After we told ther we already paid she was able to find our ordered. And said it would be another 45 min to 1hr. After waiting almost 2 hrs we arrived at the restaurant. And the order was wrong. They were missing a pizza and didn't make the chicken parm with Alfredo. (Which we paid an extra $4 for) they said they will make us another pizza and chicken parm but we would have to wait 25 minutes. Which is of course would cause the rest of our food to get cold. So they said they would refund us for the pizza but wouldn't refund us for the full chicken parm, only the $4 for the Alfredo. They said it will take 2-3 days to get the money back. The review on the food, we actually did get, isn't great either. The deep dish wasnt fully cooked the cheese wasnt even fully melted. . The noodles were way over cooked, the chicken was rubbery we couldn't even eat it. The thin crust pizza had no sauce. The whole thing was a complete mess. One of the worse restaurant experiences we have had in a long time. I should have just thrown $85 out the window it would have been more enjoyable. I'll stick with The Pizzeria or Mama Mia's...
