We are so glad that we tried this place out! The environment is so cozy and exotic. The price was reasonable, compared to other similar restaurants. Good portion size! Most importantly, very good food! The garlic naan was the best I’ve ever had! Thinner and crispier than most of the other places’, it smelled so wonderful garlicky when it arrived. We ordered Lamb Shish Kebab, which was so juicy and tender. We fought over the bell peppers of the vegetables served with it… because it was cooked so perfectly, sweet and crispy. We normally won’t order Tikka Masala with chicken, because the chicken chunks most likely would be tough. The one at Caravan’s tho, was not as much of a red hue as we had from the other restaurants, however, the spice and texture was so intriguingly amazing; the chicken bites were so tender that it was incredible. It almost like a different presentation of the same dish, in a very good way. The Moroccan Lamb Tagine which turned out to be my favorite. The lamb pieces, again, juicy tenderness; the vegetable creates a good harmony and the spices blended in perfectly. Love. It also serves with couscous that I ate a big chunk before I mixed them in the dish.
We didn’t get any free on the house dessert as the website states; and the server didn’t warn us about possibly too much food (I appreciate those who did). We did see many of the different dishes from different cuisines being included in the menu, such as borscht, beef stroganoff, polish dumplings, kebab, curry. Their website states that the chef’s menu is a “collection memories, experience, and flavor.” How amazing. Just as the Japanese would say, while eating here, we could picture the chef’s vivid memories of making the dish at where the cuisine was originally from. I...
Read moreI have spent roughly a week brooding over the review that I would write for Caravan Kebab-- it was just THAT good.
My partner and I were greeted at the door by a lovely soul (who I believe was the owner). The door, once held open for us, revealed an inside that had been lavishly decorated and projected a 'fun,' yet relaxing atmosphere. Within seconds, we were greeted by the same friendly face that had held open the door for us moments prior. In a negligible amount of time, we had water and our food items ordered.
Wait time: No one was in the restaurant when we entered, so our food came out rather quick! I would say it took around 15-20 minutes to receive our plates. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and my significant other had ordered the Saag Paneer. We both have a love for Indian cuisine and I must say that out of every Indian establishment we've been to in the PNW, Caravan Kebab got it the MOST right.
After finishing our decadent meal, our friend/the server/possibly owner came over to chat with us for a bit. Whilst enjoying my meal, I had noticed how much he liked to cajole with the patrons and it created such a welcoming air. At the end of our meal, as we were expecting our ticket, we were told "hold on one second, my friend." In a whir, our waiter had disappeared just as soon as he returned... but with one of the most beautiful pieces of baklava I have ever seen. He gave it to us on the house for absolutely no reason, which left us flattered and perhaps a bit heavier than when we first walked in, haha!
We will definitely be coming back. This place is totally worth the otherwise out-of-the-way drive. Please make it a point to stop in if you're in the area for some exquisite...
Read moreI'll start with good things. Very welcoming hosts. Nice interior. Quiet location. Unfortunately it's greatly outweighed by things that could be better. Stained tablecloths. In my opinion it's better not to have them at all than keep them dirty on the table. Poorly washed silverware. You know that feeling, when knife was washed in lukewarm water with not enough soap and you get that thin grease coating on it. Food amount/quality is not worth the price in my opinion. I've ordered lamb shish kabab. For $26 I'd expect either good amount with okay taste or moderate amount with great taste. None of it was present. I got five small pieces of lamb. It was not fresh off the grill. It was either reheated or cooked some other way. Overcooked - it was well done. Too much seasoning, it was overpowering everything else. Same goes for chicken kabab my wife ordered. At the end of the dinner we were given a free dessert - rice pudding. It tasted quite nice.
I really appreciate hospitality but paying $60 for two poorly cooked dishes and lack of cleanliness is not a good deal to me. Unless quality of food and cleaning are addressed I...
