My family used to frequent La Tapatia when I was little. Back then my mom would order me a burrito de carne molida and my abuelita and her would order tamales or gorditas. It had been many years since I'd visited. I was reminded of this place when a coworker brought tamales and empanadas to work from there a couple of weeks ago. I decided to purchase a dozen of the red pork, 1/2 dozen of the rajas con queso, and 1/2 dozen of the green chile chicken tamales, as well as a package of mini empanadas de piña to take to my mom for Mother's Day lunch. They had a sign advertising their Mexican oatmeal with toast, which I didn't get to try but it sounds tasty so I'll definitely try it next time. I also ordered three breakfast plates to-go for my family. We got the egg, beans, and enchilada plates which included a fresh flour tortilla and a few tostadas for your beans. We live in the Far East and took the 375 to the restaurant and back. Food was still good once I got home. I did get an extra egg for each plate and it was the perfect amount of food. It was a good price for a yummy Mexican breakfast. Workers were very courteous and helpful and spoke both English and Spanish. It's a very warm and cozy atmosphere. Definitely feels like you're at your abuelita's or tia's house. There is dine in and also carryout. I did not get any pictures of the food this time around as it was devoured in a flash! Keep in mind that the restaurant is only open from 8AM-3PM, but the good thing is they are open every day. I look forward to eating...
Read moreI had placed an order for 3 dozen tamales from this place—2 dozen pork tamales and 1 dozen Raja tamales. While some of the pork tamales had a chicken-like taste, they were still edible. However, when we opened the dozen Rajas, we discovered that the first two tamales were Rajas, and the remaining 10 were sweet tamales that we hadn’t ordered. When we informed them about this mix-up, the lady on the phone seemed skeptical and only offered to replace the 10 tamales. Their attempt at making amends was to simply replace them without providing the entire dozen.
My advice to anyone considering ordering tamales from this place is to carefully review the order before leaving, as they cannot be trusted to deliver the correct order. Their service is comparable to those street vendors who sell tamales, who often give away a sample in the bag they use to present the tamale. I will never return to this place...
