I normally don’t like to give bad reviews, but this time I feel like is necessary. I first knew about this restaurant back in March because a get together with friends. The food was incredibly, I was so impressed by the carnitas that I took my mom next day. The service was very poor, but I tried to ignored it because the great food.
Two weeks later I went again, but I drive thru because I was in a rush. I wanted to try the tripitas so I ordered 1 pound of tripitas and 1 of carnitas. When I got home, the carnitas weren’t as good as they were at the restaurant… but I let I passed thinking “maybe they have a bad day. Whatever…”
I went again by the drive thru, I ordered only 2 lb tripitas due to the bad experience with the carnitas. I also ordered a tamal de elote.
When I got home, I realized they had missed the tortillas!! I live 25 min away to go back for the tortillas. It was very unpleasant, I called the restaurant to let them know and the guy in the phone was like: oh sorry it won’t happened again. Next morning when I was about to eat my tamal de elote. Oh surprise!!! It was a tamal dulce and I am highly allergic to pasas and cinnamon so it went directly to the trash… so poor service. I stopped going for a month or so because I was highly disappointed. However, my mom insisted that she wanted some tripitas and I decided to go again and buy for her.
So, I went by drive thru… I ordered 2lb of tripitas medium cooked, and 1 tamal de elote. When I was about to pay I let the man taking up the order that last time they missed the tortillas and I wanted to make sure they will put the tortillas and the right tamal. He asked me if I want more tortillas and I said yes… guess what? He charged me $3 for the tortillas when I just mentioned what have happened last time. RIDICULOUS!!
When the order was ready, it was another guy who gave me the order. I explained him what happened and he gave me an extra pack of tortillas -no charge- and a tamal de elote -also no charge-
I got home and I realized that the tamales were missing the butter that goes with it… the 2 lbs of tripitas were packed in one box and when I weighted it because it seems so little… it was 0.5 lbs of the 2 lb I ordered. I was so upset and disappointed because food there is not cheap, you expect to get your complete order when you pay good money for it.
We called to the restaurant to address the issue and the guy in the phone said that the tripitas shrinked when cooked, which is true… but 75%.
I am leaving my review, just for you to be aware to double check your order and encourage the restaurant to pay more attention to orders and quality...
Read moreHave you ever had food so good it caused an existential crisis in your life? This is that good. Perol is the only place you should go to eat carnitas. My entire life I’ve been eating carnitas that I thought were the best thing to ever happen to pork butt, then after having the opportunity to try the carnitas at Perol, I understand that I have been lied to. Not just by friends and family, but by grandmas all across town. They’ve claimed to make carnitas the way they make them in the old country, well if that’s what they’re doing in the old country, then call me city mouse cause this. And that was the last thing we tried. Imagine starting off with an appetizer that is fried pork belly with guacamole? No that’s just the appetizer. Even before that, the first thing they bring to the table is an order of fresh made chicharrones, with two small pitchers of salsa, one red, one orange. I can’t say which is better, but we almost finished the red pitcher. We shared a plate that is a shareable options that lets you choose 3 meats and two sides. We got the Bistec, Pastor de chicken, and those amazing carnitas, with all the fixings, pickled red onion, lime, salsa that is the absolute bomb. The thing that is beautiful about the carnitas is they have a very slight flavor marinated into the meat. Like they may use a low salt brine to give it flavor. Just enough added to enhance the flavor of the meat, not to muddy it up with seasonings. The meats delicate flavor is transformed into something epic when you add all the toppings, a squeeze of lime all piled on top of a fresh made corn tortilla. Oh yeah! The pastor was also very, very good. Maybe the best? Yes the price is higher than most of the places you’ll find further north on Doniphan, but it is well worth it to have such an experience. Go try it for yourself. And notice, there’s no salt on the table, because the food is so good and fresh and balanced in flavor that you don’t need to...
Read moreWas very excited to take the family to try this place. Drove from Las Cruces just for dinner. Unfortunately what was supposed to be a great family night out turned out to be a horrible experience! After waiting an hour for our meal, 2 meals were "forgotten". Finally 1 meal was brought to us half ass, plain dry tripitas no tortillas, no sides, nothing. After the served had asked my husband twice what sides he wanted with them, they later claimed that they don't come with anything so he ended up not eating. Second meal was brought when the rest were done eating & ready to leave, a carnitas torta that my daughter waited so long for, for it to be super cold! After going up & explaining that I wasn't going to pay for those 2 meals, the cashier who claimed to be the manager argued over & over that we had to pay for it & literally blamed it on us for supposedly ordering something that doesn't come with sides! I refused to pay for 2 meals that were horrible & not eatable! Very poor customer service! Waste of time, gas & money on a half ass dinner for only half of the family! Completely unacceptable! That guy needs to learn what customwr satisfaction is! Had he just fixed the problem without being such a jerk then we would have given them...
