Very good small joint that attracts a pretty good amount of people a day and is a pretty good place to eat at the food was quite great the chicken was amazing it was excellently breaded and fried to perfection it's a great place to sit and talk with your friends and family the hosts and employees there are very friendly, very informative, and just overall really good people they all are very hard workers and hopefully get paid enough to do this the other foods such as salads are great they had a great selection and amount of vegetables and sauces and a good place to eat during their hours and it fits in perfectly for lunch hours they have a good selection for every course and is very diverse in what they serve so there's food for everyone to enjoy. They have seats and tables to sit at and enjoy your food and you'll always be able to make it for seconds because they serve alot of food in the time they are given and always cook more than what they need they have a really good selection and amount of desserts and is quite unique in taste it is the masterpiece of dessert and would be my number one place for desserts in all of Alabama they had such good food I had to write such a long and good and informative review for them because the time I had there was absolutely phenomenal and enjoyed every second of being there its such a good place to go and has such a good amount of food and the quality of the food was absolutely amazing I had a great time there the vibe I get from this place was a very good one I enjoyed the employees they had good jokes to tell and were informative and nice they never talked back or was rude and all of them deserve to know that they help run one of the best places in all of Alabama I honestly see this place a reason to go to Alabama just for this it's a very good cafe with very good food and I definitely enjoy being here and once I go back to Florida I will definitely visit this place again It's a very good place I very much recommend please everyone do go try it out you won't be let down this place is a God send and you'll enjoy every bit of it. ...
Read moreWe stopped by since it's pretty close to home, and I'm unfortunately pretty disappointed in the food, but the lady working and atmosphere made up for it somewhat.
Food gets a 1/5 stars due to it being very bland. The fried chicken visibly has pepper in the breading, but doesn't taste it, and definitely doesn't have garlic or onion powder, paprika, anything that would enhance the flavor of the chicken. The green beans, lima beans, and cabbage all relied on incorporated meat to flavor them - not terrible, just terribly bland. The mashed potatoes are either boxed, or are seasoned to taste boxed. The Sister Schubert's frozen rolls were good though, that's the brand I always buy 😂. Salad bar was fine, just basic bagged salad mix with generic toppings. I did get a nice mouthful of the former stem attachment of a tomato that made it's way to the salad bar.
Service gets a 3/5 stars - not because it was bad, but there just really wasn't any. It's meant to be that way by design, though, considering it's a buffet. The lady who brought us our tea and checked us out (I apologize for not catching your name!) was extremely nice and was working very hard running food and empty trays back and forth to the buffet, clearing tables, refilling drinks, checking folks in and out. Definitely a hard worker, but it's just hard to rate service when we personally didn't need any due to our short stay.
Atmosphere gets a 5/5. Small town buffet vibe, no expectations of showing up in your Sunday best where you help yourself to the food and desserts. It's not "done" well, it just "is" that kind of place.
I'd be willing to try it again on a day where they have other foods - I've seen reviews of ham/cheeseburgers and fries. Definitely not the "best fried chicken everrrr", though. I do appreciate the willingness to make such a bold claim, but having grown up elsewhere in Alabama...
Read moreWe live in Foley, and we drive to Pensacola periodically and pass through Elberta every time. We've said for years now that we need to try the Roadkill Cafe, but we just never seemed to time it right, or maybe we weren't hungry as we drove by. But for whatever reason, we hadn't tried it until today.
We were in Elberta just before noon, and our Cheerios and banana that we had for breakfast were long gone. We were hungry, and there was a parking spot waiting for us in front of the Roadkill. Call it karma, kismet, or predestination. It was meant to be. We parked and went in.
Of course at noon the place was full of folks but we were greeted and told they would have a table ready for us in just a minute, and no sooner than the words were out of her mouth a table was ready. We walked back to our table and were greeted again and we placed our drink order. We were told to help ourselves, and boy did we.
It turns out that all those years of driving by and not trying the Roadkill were a mistake on our part.... Big time. All the employee's were friendly and helpful and it felt like they were genuinely glad to have us. But it's the food that makes a restaurant, and these folks are serving it up. It's an AYCE buffet so we had a salad, and sampled the excellent potato salad. Then we had the Fried Chicken, and Pork Chops, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and biscuit on the side. Then had some more fried chicken, black eye peas, and another helping of beans. It was all so good. This is the food (though in lesser quantities) that I grew up on. It was like my Mom & Dad were in the kitchen. 'cept I don't remember having cake and ice cream for dessert at home.
The Roadkill Cafe is no longer a place that we might have lunch at if we're hungry and in town during their very limited hours. It's a destination that we'll visit regularly. ...
