Beef Shack — Restaurant in Elgin

Beef sandwiches here are really good. Make sure to get gravy as well. And the fries are absolutely magnificent.

I’m updating my review as of November 19, 2022. I still stand by the quality of the food and the amazing fries, however, customer service in the drive-through leaves a lot to be desired. Yesterday, as I drove through to order just a couple small items, the young woman taking my order was very short and not very helpful in taking my order. I don’t go here that often but when I see a picture of a beef with cheese, and that’s what I think I’m ordering, I believe that’s what I’m going to get. I didn’t realize this until I got home and there was no cheese on the beef which is a travesty. Not once did she offer me any options which I believe include peppers as well. I felt like I was being rushed and then when I had asked her to repeat the order back to me, it was basically two sandwiches and two fries, very simple. when I got to the window, one of the fries was missing and after she gave me a look like I didn’t know what I was talking about, she gave me a second fry practically throwing it at me saying “here you go”, and closed the drive-through window, never acknowledging that the order was missing an item or that she was sorry for the inconvenience. The general feeling of dealing with people at this location is that it’s an inconvenience and that the customer is a nuisance. This is not just my opinion, but others that I’ve spoken to as well. So I used to manage the hoffman estates vbeefshsck so I know all the standards the originals used so I'll give my review based on that criteria to see how the food I got from the new age beefshack compared to when there were just 3 locations (none of which are no longer open).

Saving the best for last, so starting with the worst first. This was a typical issue at beefshack and any fast food place I'm sure the guy taking the order missed giving me a snack sauce even though I told him twice. And that wasnt even upsetting. It was expected. I would have been impressed if he hadnt forgotten something. But wasnt upset he did bc it happens. Next would be the quality of fries. They werent slightlyyy crispy like they should have been being fresh. But that also wasnt upsetting bc they were cooked enough and tasted just like the ones I made. And the cheesy beef on garlic with sweet peppers was amazing. Heavy enough and covered with cheese and 2 good size peppers. Overall amazing experience. And not sure who checks these now but you guys gave me a good first impression being the first time I've eaten at one that wasnt the originals. Next time I'm going to see how the shack salad is, that was one of my favorites

Beef Shack was becoming one of my favorite local beef joints. Often, I am served food of a delicious standard. Just today, however, I placed an order through the drive-thru. The order was incorrect when received (x2; I didn't realize until I was home). It was missing French fries. I drove around and told them through the intercom what I believed had happened; it made sense. I had even made a comment to the cashier during my first go-around that it sounded a bit low in price, thinking we'd clarified the order at that point. Anyhoo, I pulled back around and proceeded to wait for an additional 10-ish minutes while they had the car that was originally behind me in line waiting for his order. When I got back to the window, they had the 2nd order ready. I paid them and pulled away, opening the bag to find cold, "bottom of the warmer" fries—perfectly filled, which, to be honest, this place never perfectly fills. They always overfill, and their fries are usually "banging," and just about any other day, burning hot 5stars. Insult to injury: When I got home and opened my beef combo, it had the hot, but no mozz—bummer! It was still really good.
