I went in on a very busy nigh ordered a drink by shaking some cash and one bartender came and served me. After I finished my drink I noticed another bartender was helping someone a couple seats over and since it was very loud and I have a disability that causes me pain when yelling I took my glass and set my arm on the bar and shook the glass like I do in every other bar. About 30 seconds later the bartender ripped the class out of my hand and started shaking it about 8 inches from my face. This went on for about 20 seconds then she started cursing and saying that it was annoying. I tried to explain my disability with getting her attention by yelling but she just kept yelling and would not let me talk. I went to the other bartender and asked to speak to the owner as I could see him in the back and she refused and said she was in charge. I started explaining my disability with raising my voice to order a drink and told me the other bartender can talk to me any way she wants because "she is behind the bar". Again I asked for the owner and was refused. About this time the other bartender came over and started yelling and cursing at me. I asked the "in charge" bartender 3 times to tell her to stop yelling and cursing at me and she said again she was behind the bar and can talk to me however she want. After about a minute and a half of her yelling at me I very sarcastically said something I probably should not have said but at that point I was really tired of her publicly degrading me and the "in charge" bartender letting her. I was then kicked out. Unless the owner deals with the situation I will never go back to...
Read moreWe stopped at Shujack's in Elma, WA at 10:10 a.m. on a Monday morning in late August for brunch on a drive home from Astoria, OR. We are so glad we did. Everything was perfect, the restaurant gods had delivered as we had never been there before.
Savannah, our server and bartender, got to us quickly with no wait considering there were already 15 people ahead of us in the restaurant which opens at 10:00 a.m. We were actually given our menus by a patron at the bar having breakfast while Savannah was serving other patrons. Talk about service! First things first though, the bathrooms were squeaky clean, Yea!
The coffee was great, good light roast, (their own blend as it turned out) just perfect for a long drive. I had the Philly Cheesesteak which was cooked perfectly for me. The spouse had the egg breakfast where the bacon, eggs, hash browns, and even the toast was prepared just the way we both like it. (She shared 2 bacon strips).
The atmosphere was very friendly, as many folks knew each other and Shujack's was clearly their brunch meeting location.
Parking is on the street and very easy in the AM. Closing, I do about one restaurant review a year and this is it. If you're passing through or live at Elma area and looking for a brunch place, put Shujack's on your short list, It may be a bar/tavern at night but at 10:00 a.m., it was the best place in Western,...
Read moreShuJack's was recommended to me for lunch today. I had never been there. Got there just after 11am, Sunday, 11/21 with a friend. A couple walked in behind us & sat down near us. The place did not appear busy & there were 3 people coming & going behind the bar. We seemed to be ignored as was the other couple. No one acknowledged our presence, no one looked our way, no service, nothing. The other couple got up & walked out, went next door to the Mexican Restaurant, they are always glad to have your business. We sat there much too long & I got up & walked to the bar to ask if we could get service. Still 3 people there, no eye contact, nothing. Finally the waitress walked past me & muttered "be with you in a minute". Well, far more than a minute went by, nobody looked particularly busy & we gave up & walked out. We also went next door to the Mexican restaurant. The sign over the door at ShuJack's says "FRIENDLIEST BAR IN TOWN". That has to be someone's idea of a joke. We will not be back & neither will...
