To preface this review, I do acknowledge that this chain of events was entirely my fault for forgetting to bring my ID to an establishment that serves alcohol, of which I apologized for multiple times. I still don't think customers should be treated like this after saying they're sorry for the inconvenience they caused.
After trying to order a cocktail from the upstairs bar, the woman working the upstairs bar from 8:00-9:30pm tonight informed me that I could not order because I did not have a physical ID, just a picture of it from the California DMV website. I apologized for the inconvenience and she then cheerfully suggested that I head downstairs to grab a beer and some tacos instead. I asked if it was okay if I brought food and drink upstairs and she informed me that it was no problem, she just couldn't serve me alcohol, of which I excitedly agreed to.
After arriving back upstairs with 3 tacos (delicious by the way) and a beer my friend asked me if I wanted a drink from the bar. Since I haven't been carded in over 10 years (I'm sorry I'm old) I said sure why not. Realizing my mistake, I apologized again to the female bartender and requested that my drink be cancelled which she did. After apologizing twice in what I will hold firm to as a polite tone, she then came back three separate times and kept asking me "Why are you so mad? Why are you leaving work without your ID?" once to bus our table, which I helped consolidate plates for, and the second and third time were just stops after bussing other tables to make it a point to come speak to me.
I initially thought she was joking around until the 2nd and 3rd time in which I felt berated and that she was trying to incite anger out of me for whatever reason. She then accused me of stealing beer from the upstairs tap and I tried to lighten the situation by stating that I'm not that fast as a joke and that I was just drinking the beer I was informed to go get from downstairs.
Again this chain of events is my fault and I apologize for it, but I was just trying to watch my friend perform tonight and I don't believe I deserved to be spoken to like that, especially three times. I think that's excessive.
To the bartender: To answer your question I am still not mad. I would like to express my empathy, and honestly a little sadness, to you because I have had bad days as well but I still do not think it is appropriate to treat your customers the way you treated me tonight. I have learned my lesson from you and I will no longer forget my ID when going out. However I do not think it will be to go to this restaurant anytime soon. Please let me be the last customer you treat like this, it is truly...
Read moreI've never been more disappointed with an experience before. Honestly ever, mainly because of the service. This place has a lot of potential, but the employees were very rude, unhappy and unpleasant. The space is also much smaller than advertised on IG.
The woman and man working looked like they were in an argument over something, and took it out on the customers (me and a few others in line). I left my card in the terminal and the woman employee yelled saying, "someone left a credit card..." and when I started to walk up to the bar, she slammed it down on the counter and turned away abruptly. I understand people have their days, but when you work in hospitality, leave your problems at the door. The man working did not seem like he wanted to be there and made the overall experience just socially uncomfortable.
We also came for food and the kitchen was closed at 2 (we were there a bit after). Wouldn't be a problem, but there was no signage indicating this online or in person. The physical menus behind the bar were also not clear surrounding the kitchen and ordering times. We ended up getting a cookie that was rock hard. The coffee was standard.
For future travellers, don't go on a weekday as only the small market is open, but it does have beer and coffee. There is little signage indicating hours regarding the different activities (petting zoo, farms, tacos, studio space, etc.) and after looking excessively, I still never figured it out. We came in from out of town and were very excited for this whole experience. We couldn't even look around the farm when we got there.
Overall, just don't waste your time here. I've heard weekends are lined up and take an hour to do or see anything. There's better things to do in SoCal, especially in Encinitas. Also, side note, the atmosphere is kind of ceremonial, but maybe I've just been watching too many cult documentaries lately. I left feeling very uncomfortable and just ultimately unhappy with...
