Nesler's Polar Whip — Restaurant in Energy

The food is very good and it's a favorite from childhood! However the older lady that works there in the back is very rude. I was in this past weekend and a lady in front of me had bought quite a large order (big enough it had to be put in a large box to carry out) and as she was paying she reached in the cup on the counter where many times people put change for others. As she did the older lady from the back yelled up front to the cashier... She can't be using that jar or something very close to that. The woman was obviously embarrassed at this point and told the cashier I need to stop coming here to eat. I myself many times have put change in that bowl for others and that's what it's there for. It's not like she was paying for her entire order with that bowl. It has not settled well with me over the last few days and I thought I would share. That experience will most likely cause me not to go over as often as we do now. I have been told the lady is the owners wife but I do not know that to be fact. Not a good way to do business...

Let me start by saying, I love the food here. Stop in when ever I can if I am in Herrin But I stopped in today and the lady taking order/money was SO RUDE!! She acted as if I was a bother to her being there. Never had this happen to me there before. It will be awhile before I think of stopping again. I don't know if she was upset that I had such a big order(I was feeding 7 folks) or of she was just having a bad day. I am not a rude person and wasn't rude to her. But when I am spending $30 on food in your place I should get treated a little nicer. Very disappointed because I love stopping here. I would rather give my money to a local southern Illinois business before I do anywhere else. I have a lot of southern Illinois pride. And support locally Own as much as I can. Very disappointed I love going there. Oh well I guess she didn't want my money or me...

This place has been a staple in Southern Illinois for many years. The food 8s always good and the atmosphere is one that many who live here gave grown up with. It was fun to go there as a teenager and then to take your own children too and see them introduce it to their children. A great place . Hope it remains for many more years to come! Still a great place to go for a good hamburger and fries! Like I said before it is a staple for Southern Illinois growing up and living here. Our son, who has moved to Central Illinois for college and married a girl from Decatur still likes to go to Polar Whip when he gets back down here. We will continue to visit here as long as...
