Got up early this morning purposely to order some pancakes to take home for breakfast to my company from out of town, after raving about them yesterday when my guests arrived. My household, still asleep, I decided to surprise everyone with the famous pancakes from Rosie's, but now I WILL NEVER recommend them to ANYONE!!! I was treated VERY RUDELY when I got there, told they won't do take out orders because they were busy and it takes too long. Too long???? I ONLY ASKED FOR 3 SHORT STACKS OF PANCAKES... that's ONLY 6 PANCAKES!!! PANCAKES???? MY GOD!!!! All ya gotta do is make 6 pancakes, throw them in a box, collect payment and send the person on their way!!! They don't have to serve any drinks, set a place or clean up after them...WAY LESS WORK involved for being "too busy"!! And for PANCAKES???... Pancakes are one of the simplest, quickest things to make!!! You'd think I was asking for a huge breakfast buffet or something!!! This was rotten ROTTEN customer service. When I told my guests about the great pancakes at Rosie's yesterday, then got up today to get them, I was making a decision to choose them over ANY OTHER BUSINESS in town to give my dollar votes to! I was also choosing to compliment them to my guests over ANY OTHER PLACE IN TOWN, to make them known in a positive light to those who have never heard of Rosie's. That could have grown their customer base even further. Word of mouth travels faster than any other form of advertising. But that's ok if Rosie's new owners chooses to be rude to paying customers because negative experiences travel just as fast, if not faster. The dollar votes they COULD HAVE HAD are now VERY MUCH APPRECIATED by their competitors WHO WERE EXTREMELY SYMPATHETIC to hear of how rudely I was treated at Rosie's, and were VERY HAPPY TO SERVE ME WITH 100 TIMES BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE & BUSINESS PRACTICE than Rosie's Diner!!! My guests whose first impression of Rosie's is now TERRIBLE, are now traveling back home to THEIR peers. And when they talk to people about great places to visit in Escanaba, it won't be Rosie's they'll be recommending. Nope! They will be recommending the competitor, and Rosie's is now the restaurant we all tell people to avoid!!! That's really sad, but I guess the guy that owns it now doesn't want any customers since he cares more about turning people away and being rude and...
Read moreI've never been to a diner, before, so I was kind of intimidated. It was exactly what you'd expect: quaint, lots of people, and lots of NOISE. I thought about leaving, but the moment I sat down, the waitress asked if I wanted something to drink, so I went with Coke and stayed. After about five minutes, she came back and asked if I was ready to order. I didn't know what to order – I'd never been there, before, as I said – so she offered me a menu. Not long after, I ordered her recommendation: biscuits and gravy, and another four minutes later, I had my food.
Now, for six dollars, I was expecting a fairly small portion. You know… two biscuits and lots of gravy with some meat. No no. What I got was a biscuit the size of a DINNER PLATE, which was covered in thick, meaty, AWESOME looking sausage gravy. I was genuinely surprised! After seeing that, I kind of wish I hadn't ordered a side of eggs to go with it! But, the biscuits and gravy were AMAZING. Genuinely the best biscuits and gravy I've EVER had. The eggs were great, too! That's not even the best part, though.
Rosy's Diner can be summed up in one word: COZY. Once I got my food, I started to relax and take in the atmosphere, and I was all smiles! Rosy is such a CARD, having fun with her regular customers, and the waitress was really friendly and just as fun, too! I even chatted with a nearby customer about the diner and the food, and things. For someone like me, who usually doesn't like being approached, that was pretty new, but it was great to step out my comfort zone and cut loose, for a change!
Honestly, I don't think I've ever had so much fun while eating. It's kind of like the "Cheers" of diners -- everybody's glad you came! If you're in Escanaba, whether you're passing through or live there, definitely stop by Rosy's Diner on Ludington Street. The food is fantastic, and the...
Read moreThis was my first time experiencing Rosy's Diner. I knew virtually nothing about the restaurant other than it served breakfast and it was on my way back from Upper Michigan to Wisconsin. On the outside there is plenty of parking in the area so getting a parking spot was easy. On the inside you realize it's very cozy. The atmosphere screams nostalgia. The food is cooked in front of you and the smells belong in the Smithsonian. Barstools at the countertop place you right in the cooking action, but if you prefer some space they have a decent amount of tables. Rosy's is limited in capacity so lucky for me when I showed up, two spots opened at the countertop. Our waitress showed up right away to give us water and take our drink order. She was great to talk to and had a wonderful personality. Midwest friendly, if you know what I mean. I ordered the chicken fried steak with eggs, hash browns, and toast. I was assured that this would be the best chicken fried steak in the area because of the homemade gravy. My waitress did not lie. The whole plate was amazing, but that gravy was the show stopper! I ate the whole breakfast plate and probably shouldn't have. The portions were on the large size and I could have easily stopped half way through my meal to prevent being stuffed on the way home. That of course is not Rosy's fault, I just couldn't stop eating...All in all, I would say it's an almost perfect vintage...
