The New Ronnie's Cajun Cafe — Restaurant in Eunice

The only reason I gave one star is because the waitress was very nice. Now here's the rest of the story. I don't like to give bad reviews but sometimes a place is so bad it necessary so others don't have to experience the same thing. My husband and I drove in from Houston on Friday to celebrate our anniversary. We chose Eunice because thete wasn't a Holiday Inn in Kinder, close to the casino. We were looking forward to some great Cajun food. I looked online for a restaurant nearby and found this place. You'd think by reading the reviews we would be in for a treat. WRONG! This was without a doubt the worst Cajun restaurant I've ever eaten at in my entire life! In fact its the worst restaurant period! First of all the photos posted on Google are NOT photos of the food you get. The gumbo was obviously made with a powdered roux. It didn't even have the trinity in it! It was watery and the tiny shrimp were those red frozen looking things. There was nothing else in the gumbo. It was literally disgusting. We should have walked out them but we decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. I ordered the shrimp plate. 3 fried, 3 grilled. The shrimp was still translucent when they brought it out. It too was frozen shrimp. Were in Louisiana for God's sake My! If you can't get fresh seafood there you shouldn't even be in the restaurant business. My baked potato was ice cold. The butter and cheese wouldn't even melt. No need to go into how bad my husband's fried fish was. Yes, we could have sent everything back but what good would it have done. The food is obviously not made from scratch. Not even close. They probably get it all delivered in bags and attempt to warm it up. I'm sorry but I do not believe any of the reviews here that gave positive reviews are anything but employees, relatives or good friends. This place is bad, bad, bad. This is the first time my husband and I have eaten in Eunice. We were passing through on a Saturday evening and wanted something that was outside of your typical chain restaurant. We were promptly greeted as soon as we walked in. Once seated , our waitress was very friendly and quick to wait on us. I ordered the chicken and sausage gumbo. My hubby had the bacon cheeseburger with tots. First, the gumbo was spectacular! The flavor was perfect! I’ve eaten a lot of gumbo through the years and you can always tell if a gumbo has been cooked correctly-it MUST be slow simmered for hours to allow the flavors to “marry”. Otherwise you will end up with a liquid that tastes like water, seasoning, and flour roux. This gumbo was definitely cooked by someone that is experienced in true Cajun cooking. The rice was also cooked perfectly and the potato salad was equally just as good. My husband said his bacon cheese burger and tots were also delicious. The meat patty was made using fresh beef, not from a pre-frozen patty. After the meal, we were given our choice of a complimentary desert which is definitely a nice touch. I had the chocolate mousse and my hubby had the apple cobbler. Both were very good. By chance, the owner of the restaurant was eating next to us with her family. She was a very personable lady who seemed to really have her heart and soul in this restaurant. You could tell that she takes great pride in making sure that her customers are satisfied. I have eaten there many times and gotten food to go. Last week I ordered a plate lunch. It was not a good situation at all. I paid my good hard working money and did not receive back a proper outcome. I called and spoke to the manager (C) giving her the specifics of my experience with my food. The manager listened then she said do you want the owner to call you back. I said sure. I left my number. I believe the owner should be aware of what the kitchen staff or whoever did this. This could be happening to your other customers. I NEVER received a call back from anyone. I called a couple more times and was told they were taking my messages to give to her. The last call I made the lady said she was a manager as well and was also related to the owner. She was very nice and took down my message and said I will give her the message but I cant say that (L) will call you back. She was right. I never got a call back from anyone. Not a good way to do business in our community to your local customers. Shows a lack of care. I would have much prefered giving yall a compliment in sharing that someone apologized and made it right.
