Dining at Boomtown Woodfire is more than just a meal; it's an experience that tantalizes the senses and leaves a lasting impression. Recently, I had the pleasure of dining at this exceptional establishment, and from start to finish, it was a remarkable evening. The highlight of the night was the impeccable service provided by our server, Quanda and the unforgettable Prime Rib Truffle Pasta. Exceptional Service by Quanda
Our dining experience was elevated by the outstanding service provided by Quanda. From the moment we were seated, Quanda's friendly and professional demeanor set the tone for the evening. She greeted us with a warm smile and provided menus, taking the time to explain the specials and answer any questions we had about the menu. Her knowledge of the dishes and her genuine enthusiasm for the restaurant's offerings were immediately apparent, and it was clear that she took great pride in her work.
Quanda was attentive without being intrusive, ensuring that our glasses were never empty and that we had everything we needed throughout the meal. Her recommendations were spot on, and her attention to detail was impeccable. She made us feel welcome and valued, adding a personal touch to the evening that made it even more special.
The Highlight: Prime Rib Truffle Pasta
The standout dish of the evening was undoubtedly the Prime Rib Truffle Pasta. This dish is a true testament to the chef's skill and creativity, combining high-quality ingredients with expert preparation to create a culinary masterpiece.
The Prime Rib Truffle Pasta arrived at our table beautifully presented, with a generous portion of tender prime rib atop a bed of perfectly cooked pasta. The dish was finished with a rich, creamy truffle sauce that enveloped each piece of pasta in a luxurious, flavorful embrace. The aroma alone was enough to whet our appetites, with the earthy scent of truffle mingling with the savory notes of the prime rib.
From the very first bite, it was clear that this dish was something special. The prime rib was cooked to perfection, with a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness that can only be achieved through careful preparation and high-quality meat. The truffle sauce was equally impressive, with a depth of flavor that elevated the dish to new heights. The truffle's distinctive earthy undertones paired beautifully with the rich, savory prime rib, creating a harmonious balance that was both indulgent and satisfying.

Read moreMy wife and I have tried Boomtown 4 times, and been disappointed 4 times. The first was a few years ago at the Hibbing location, shortly after they opened.
Just a quick stop in for a snack. Service was slow, appetizer was cold, bartender did not know how to make drinks. Hardly anyone there. The next visit was also in Hibbing. I wasn't doing reviews at the time but that was our worst (by a longshot) restaurant experience ever. Even till today!
We sat down for dinner. My wife ordered a ribeye and I ordered a filet. Even fewer people in the restaurant this time, but it took even longer. And when our food finally came, an odor came with it. The plate placed in front me had the smell of manure, and I smelled it before it came to the table. The server was gone so fast, I couldn't say anything. My wife isn't the type to complain, so she said just try it, even though she smelled it as well.
So I did.
It tasted like it smelled. I SPIT IT OUT SO FAST! It took a bit before I could flag down our server. I told her and she took the plate away. With no apology.
After a few more moments, a stranger came to our table. She said, "I understand you were served a bad piece of meat. Of course it will be taken off the bill. Would you like anything else?" I said, "No. My appetite is ruined." And she walked away.
I'd never seen her before. She never introduced herself. Didn't apologize. Just left it at that.
Who was she? If you're a manager, or worse, an owner, learn business ethics. Introduce yourself and at least make an effort. Worst customer service ever.
A year or so later, we tried their flagship store in Eveleth. Service was sketchy. Very slow. Seating took forever and service was virtually non existent. Every table near us discussed how disappointing everything from service to food quality was.
Now, another year later (a few days ago) we were in the neighborhood, and hungry, and decided to try one more time in Eveleth.
We sat at the bar. It wasnt busy, and the bartender was pretty good at first. We each ordered one drink. And an appetizer. The food was bland and greasy. And the french onion soup had onion skins in it!
The bartender finally came and asked how things were. Again, my better half doesn't like to complain, however we talked about the food already and both agreed it was just crap.
So when asked, I told the truth.
I don't usually use first names, however, this person was snotty and rude.... Meesha, the bartender. She walked away in the middle of my sentence, after she asked me a question. Without saying a word, came back after a couple minutes and grabbed the soup cups. Then went into the kitchen. We could see there was a little pow wow back there.
She came back. No apology. But made some comment about taking the soup off the check?
After that bartender left, the oncoming one came over and offered free dessert. We were and are done...
Read moreWe've given our patronage to this Boomtown a handful of times now and to be perfectly blunt, it's been a mixed bag.
The food is mostly really good, though not always consistent and some decisions leave me scratching my head in confusion.
Ribeye? Fantastic! Well seasoned, cooked to temp, very pleased with this choice for dinner.
Hand breaded chicken sandwich? Fresh, crispy, delicious - both with and without Nashville hot sauce, as we've tried it both ways.
Truffle fries? Phenomenal, if the strong taste of truffles is up your alley (which it is, for me). Their fries are pretty good, regardless.
Brisket? Sometimes fantastic where it falls apart effortlessly, sometimes dry and a little tough. I don't risk ordering it anymore, personally.
Portobello prime? Great sandwich, very much reminds me of another local restaurant favorite, Grandma's "Steak Cheese French".
Children's spaghetti? Not spaghetti. No, seriously, it's actually cavatappi noodles, which the kids menu does not mention anywhere - these are the same noodles that they use for their mac and cheese. Why call it spaghetti??
Minor inconvenience? The child eating with us has sensory issues (Autism Spectrum Disorder), so something so "small" as mis-advertising which noodles are in the dish turns into a larger issue, quite quickly. This might have not been as big of a complaint if when we brought this up the waitress she had not retorted, "Oh, well it's always been that way" as if that makes anything about the situation better, though to her credit she did also ask if it was going to be okay.
Also, we have discussed after a couple of our Boomtown visits how the wait staff who served our table seemed... unhappy? inconvenienced? Not that they've given us poor service in any way but they just seemed to have a chip on their shoulder for whatever reason - this has been at least 3 of the visits that I can recall.
Also, my French onion soup was not only forgotten initially but it was also overly salty, and I'm someone who loves salt - on the flip side, my steak was salted perfectly. The waitress also did apologize for forgetting to put my soup in.
Oddly, we also had like 5-6 flies buzzing us and our table the entire time we dined there this evening. It was really off-putting and unexpected considering we were sitting indoors in the dining area. Screen doors needed?
Also, don't make the mistake of walking into the area where the sign labeling the entrance points, it's actually an outside freezer entrance... The actual entrance is in the back left corner of the building, if you're facing it from the street. Not sure why this choice was made, another head scratcher.
Complaints aside, Boomtown is definitely worth checking out if you're in the area, just know they can get ungodly busy sometimes and it might just be best to avoid them whenever the lot is...
