Visited on 7.3.2025.... As a fan of hockey, this place is a National Treasure, and a must see for everyone that enjoys the sport. The passion for an amazing game perfectly displayed in each exhibit. The Hall of Fame itself is a wall of plaques of players, coaches, owners, and other assorted individuals that have contributed to the success of hockey. The 1980 Men's Olympic Team and the importance of Gold Medal winning coach Herb Brooks is commemorated in numerous exhibits. The growth of various hockey programs in Minnesota high schools and colleges is on display as well as the the success of Women's Hockey. There are exhibits on the old World Hockey Association, the new Professional Women's Hockey League, and the Sled Hockey Event in the Para-Olympics, and International hockey tournaments. I appreciated the numerous signed hockey jerseys in player displays and the vintage equipment. SPECIAL Thanks to Tom Brimsek, the Nephew of Mr. Zero, Frank Brimsek, for sharing stories about his uncle's goaltending back in the 1930s and for great conversation during my visit. It was great to see the vintage leather goalie pads that characterized the glory days of hockey before the recent equipment restrictions. Spectacular, Awesome, Amazing, and...
Read moreA lot of really neat displays and historical items, but a pretty run down and outdated facility. Also, the Minnesota and Eveleth bias was pretty overwhelming. I was expecting far more USA based displays and information on the USA greats, but the majority was geared toward local legends and MN hockey. Before visiting I would have told you it should stay in small town Eveleth no matter what, and MSP already has enough. But after this visit I'm 100% in favor of it moving into a new facility and new location with hopes of it also having more of a true USA hockey facility instead of a MN hockey hall of fame with a small USA twist.
Also, when we first entered, the older gal running the cash register essentially refused to sell gift shop items to us, stating they have to be purchased on our way out instead of our way in. She also yelled at well behaved young kids touching or slightly moving any of the items/toys in the gift shop. Brutally out of touch to be working at a place like this.
Overall, very disappointing experience, and I'm not sure I'd even recommend for friends to go check it out when they are...
Read moreA hidden gem here in the Iron Range. I visited in July 2024 while traveling between the Black Hills and the Upper Peninsula. This museum may not be nearly as large as its counterpart in Toronto, but it honors the Americans who have helped to make our wonderful sport great. There are exhibits about hockey at all levels, from Pee Wee to the NHL. There are history exhibits about how the game came to be, and the old Zambonis there are really cool. A great deal of attention is paid to Herb Brooks and the 1980 Miracle team. You also get to try your hand at playing hockey and shooting the puck as hard as you can. I was honored to see the plaques of many players I grew up rooting for, such as Brian Leetch and Mike Richter. If you are anywhere near Duluth or the Iron Range, it is well worth your time to stop here and take in this wonderful history. Highly...
