This is a bit of a critique so I'll start off with the best parts. The dessert was excellent!! The nachos were very good too! The buffalo chix sub was over run with grilled onions and not the right sauce to meat ratio leaving the prominent flavor onion instead of buffalo. The elote' salad was tasty but lacking a base of lettuce or bread I opted for chips which were great! Probably should be included and called a dip instead of a salad. The French onion soups flavor was excellent! But the croutons were excessive and not toasted enough so it soaked up all the broth and made a soggy bread topping. The marinated chicken side was a whole breast which is great but came quite undercooked. It was still a little pink and seeping I'm sure the cook will temp it next time and not let this happen again. The atmosphere was nice for a tavern the bathroom was Very clean and so was the tavern itself. The service was lacking attention and she seemed to get a little frustrated with the requests which is understandable it was one girl for the whole bar and all the tables. All in all it was decent and is a nice place to eat. I hope that they see this review and can upgrade a few things. I'd like to eat there again it's close to my home. I am a chef of twenty yrs and would love to see this place shine. It has...
Read moreYou know, this is one of those places that if you're not looking for it you'll miss it. My advise?? Don't miss it. It's a small place that may seat about 30 and they have an outdoor patio overlooking the river. But it's clean inside, very clean. And it's rustic with a spot to play darts while you have a drink. The help is very attentive to your needs without being intrusive and are friendly as well. So, let's get to the food... The menu is mostly sandwich based with a smarting of salad choices. I did a basic cheeseburger with onions and ketchup. Nothing fancy but yet if cooked wrong or presented wrong will ruin a meal. Luckily neither situation arose! The burger was cooked to perfection, and the best part... they grilled the bun so that the inside edge was snappy and crisp. Now that's how a burger should be done. So in conclusion, if your in the area of Fairfield Maine, make a quick stop in for lunch. I don't think you'll be...
Read moreRiver Jack Tavern is a hidden gem offering some of the best bar food around. While they don’t have a fryer (so no fries or wings here), they more than make up for it with thoughtful homemade sides like potato salad or corn salad, plus a chips option if you’re keeping it classic. The menu is small but solid—everything feels well-considered and made with care.
Seating inside is limited and cozy, making it feel more like your favorite neighborhood hangout than a busy bar. Their tap list is small, but they keep it interesting with a rotating selection that usually offers something new and worth trying.
The highlight, though, is the outdoor patio. It overlooks the river and gives off serious “not in town anymore” vibes. It’s the kind of spot you could sit for hours, especially on a warm evening with a good beer in hand.
Overall, River Jack Tavern is low-key, local, and all about quality...
