Ok, it's great food (when it's available) and a great place to eat atmosphere-wise. The docking of one star is for my particular experience. I just expected better.
As a single diner, I can sometimes get overlooked and it took a LONG time to be noticed by the hostess. It went on long enough for a manager-type person to ask me if I had been helped yet (after maybe 15-20 min) and I replied that I think the hostess knew I was there, she had finally just acknowledged me. But then it took the man after me to say that I was there first for her actually to seat me. Now, during this time, I watched a pair of - forgive me - obnoxious rich ladies complain about being stuck in a corner and not liking it so they moved them over one table. When I was finally seated, I got put in the corner, which wasn't so bad except for the aforementioned loud and obnoxious rich ladies that I was now very near. And I didn't get asked if I'd like to sit inside or out (I would have preferred out) I was just shoved in a corner.
This was at one of the two high-top tables in the bar area, which was very loud in general. And not from the customers, it mostly seemed to be the staff. And most of the staff weren't wearing masks at all. The hostess did, but my server generally kept his gaiter around his neck and the manager-type lady that spoke to me only ever had her mask hanging off one ear.
You can get either small plates or entree-sized meals and you'll need 3-4 small plates to make a meal. I ended up getting one of the night's specials, a lobster roll, and the $2 curry taco of the night, plus a blackened ribeye taco. The lobster roll could have used more flavor in the mix, and curry taco was pretty good but by far the best was the ribeye taco. I had planned on also getting the special peach quesadilla for dessert, which would have just filled me up, but by the time for dessert, they had sold out of it. I had got there about 7:15, was seated and got my food by around 8ish, and by 8:20ish they were sold out. So I guess the moral of the story is to go early?
They had a jackfruit sorbet that my server let me try and it was really good, but I really wanted something more decadent so he suggested a bakery/cafe around the block but they were closed when I got there. Fairhope really rolls up the sidewalks by 8 on a Wednesday night...
All in all, I was really looking forward to a nice meal out but I felt marginalized, unprotected, and ultimately disappointed. My server really was great and the food is good but I just didn't have a...

I’ve been coming to Dragonfly Café since I was 16 years old (I’m now 30), and it’s always been my absolute favorite restaurant. I’ve followed it through at least three different locations over the years. When I joined the Army, my family even packed up tacos and drove them all the way to South Carolina for my graduation. That’s how much this place means to me.
Every time I come home, it’s the one stop I make without fail. It’s not just food—it’s tradition, nostalgia, and love wrapped into every bite. But on this last visit, I noticed some changes to the recipes, and honestly, they were hard to ignore. This isn’t a complaint—it’s a request, from someone who deeply loves this place—to bring back the originals. The magic has always been in the details, and it felt like some of that was missing.
That said, the oyster French toast remains hands-down the best thing on the menu. It’s iconic, unique, and perfectly Dragonfly.
I’ll continue to support this restaurant with all my heart—it’s meant so much to me over the years. I just hope it stays true to the flavors that made it unforgettable in the...
Read moreI wouldn't take my review to too much heart. Dragonfly had good food, but for me it wasn't worth it. Everything is à la carte, so you dont really get a meal, you get snacks to make into a meal. And when things are already pricey, it becomes a problem.
I only ordered their special for that day which was a lobster salad slider. I'm a very picky eater and many of their food items have a lot of clashing food items and tastes in one dish. Which is cool for some, just not me. So the $9 lobster slider seemed like the best bet. And it was really good. But I only got one (should have known, I understand its lobster but a girl's gotta eat), and I didnt order anything else because it never mentioned on the menu whether anything came with any side at all. So I hoped I would get fries or anything, but just a single slider was all I got. A good slider, but not worth it, in my opinion.
A coworker bought their turnip fries and they were EXCELLENT, thank goodness they split them with me. I was still so hungry by the end of the workday I had to stop by and pick up food before heading...
