Mi Tierra Bonita Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Fairmont City

I don't take kindly to being played for a fool. That's exactly what happened my one and only time visiting this restaurant while enjoying my time in IL Besides having to contend with a strong smell of Lysol....things were going well until I got the bill. Service friendly, my dish, tasty enough. The item I ordered had a chicken or beef option. I ordered chicken at $12.99 (beef price: $14.99) . The waitress asked If I wanted a mix, I said sure. When the plate arrived I noted a smaller than average portion, for Mexican restaurant...but no matter, it was enough, with a little leftover. On the bill I'm charged $18.99 Beef, plus $6.99 for *extra chicken *. When I took issue with this I was told the menus have all different prices. (!) This is obviously a scam and insane. Then the server gets help from another server and they take forever flipping thru menus, speaking only Spanish (even tho both also speak English).....apparently to reach a decision about the price. Now I'm pissed. You can't just make up prices. It felt like a negotiation, a bad deal. And it goes on way too long. Now they are seriously wasting my time. I'm pissed just to write this, but i feel the need to warn others. Prices are listed next to items in a menu, and that is that . Period. I did finally get charged the correct price for chicken, plus a small upcharge to have the mix. Then when I handed over my card, I was told there would be a $2 charge to run a card. Unbelievable. NO ONE DOES THIS. And this restaurant has supposedly been open for 20 years?? What a massive rip-off SCAM! I don't get it The way that went down, btw....I wasn't their first, I can tell you that. Beware.

Also, their chips suck. Too thick,...

We stopped in expecting the best due to seeing the majority of the reviews being pretty good. However, we were extremely disappointed in the service. My husband and I were looking through their big selection of food and were struggling with deciding, after asking the waitress for advice she looked confused and began to name off everything (we speak English and Spanish therefore there was no language barrier whatsoever). We had told her we were not ready and she did not leave waiting for our response. We decided on some gorditas and a torta to be safe, not realizing this would be the last time she would come see us. My husband had to get up and walk to the waitresses to ask for a refill and our check after being there for over 45 minutes. The girls who were not our waitresses were not much more attentive either. They simply said the name of what they dropped off and walked away. Meanwhile, the table right next to us got checked on easily 4-5 times despite them arriving after. The restaurant was not busy at all, most waitresses were standing talking.

Needless to say, we were very frustrated with the way they treated us versus the family seated on the other side of the bathroom doors 3 feet away.

Excellent service by wait staff that knows the menu. The atmosphere was up beat and happy. Fun colors and decorations. Great music playing but not too loud. Huge menu with lots of great choices. Plenty of seats available and easy parking with lots of spaces to choose crom. Dining room feels open and airy. Didn't feel crowded at all. The food was REALLY good and the portion sizes were HUGE. Nice thick tortilla chips with some of the best green salsa ive ever tasted. Their fresh made guacamole was delicious and perfectly prepared. Couldn't believe how reasonable the bill was. one person could easily eat for under $20. We will definitely be back to try other things...
