This review is for people who are ALLERGIC TO GLUTEN. I called to ask what items they have that’s gluten free in advance so I could write it down and know for future purchases. The woman who answered the phone told me everything was gluten free and I had a feeling that wasn’t true and she didn’t understand so I asked some more questions. I asked if the crab Rangoons were made with real or imitation crab meat because I’ve learned that imitation crab has gluten in it and the woman told me it’s imitation crab so I expressed that that has gluten in it and I can’t have that. So I then asked again what I could have that was gluten free on their menu, she again told me everything. I asked a few more questions using wheat instead of gluten and she just kept answering me “yes”. I then asked about what type of flour or panko they use for frying and if it was gluten free and she told me “yes”. I then asked “just to make sure you use flour or panko with no wheat in it?” And she told me “no we have wheat”. She ended up saying the only thing I could have is fried rice so I politely said thank you and ended the call in frustration. I then went in person to see if I could talk to someone who understood what I was saying and I ended up getting the same answer “fried rice” is all I can have on their menu. I’m not sure if it’s a lack of understanding or willingness to work with the customers but this place definitely does not accommodate for gluten allergies because I expressed it was an allergy, not a choice and still I got not help. 0/5 stars for real, I was...
Read moreMy wife and I were in Farmington, ME Sept. 15th and tried Thai Smile at their new location across the street from their original location in the space of the former Stone Hearth Cafe! The new location is MUCH nicer than the old (it was in the basement of another building), but is still partially under construction as they do not have the new bar installed yet. My wife had the green curry with chicken, I had the red curry with chicken. Both were mediocre at best. We have both had a better experience at Thai Smile when they first opened in their original location. My red curry almost tasted bad and was not pleasant smelling or tasting. It tasted like it was frozen shaved chicken with some very old powdered spice mix, just not appetizing at all. My wifes green curry was a bit better, but not great by any means. Also not, even if you ask for "five" (Their hottest spice level) it is really not spicy at all.
Conclusion: disappointed as we have had better Thai here in the past. New location is a big improvement. Might give it one more try, but only because there are no other options for Thai...
Read moreWith all the great reviews, we were looking forward to trying this Maine Thai food spot. It didn't go well. Maybe it was because we got there at 9 pm on a Tuesday night and they didn't have their "A" team in the kitchen. Overall the food ranged from okay to bad. I ordered Tum Yum soup with chicken, that was okay. My daughter ordered Pad Thai, it was very sweet and swimming in some kind of watery sauce. I ordered the ribs, They were inedible, they tasted like they were several days old and recently microwaved. My wife really liked her meal, which was a simple stir fry of shrimp and vegetables, pretty bland. It looked more steamed than stir fried, but she enjoyed it. The food came out quick, the waiter looked like he wanted to get home. I don't blame him, I would feel the same way serving 3 tables late on a Tuesday night. The restaurant does win one award, "Most Beers on Tap for a Thai Restaurant'. They must have had a dozen cool local style craft beers on tap. Very unusual for a Thai spot. In fairness we may have caught them on...
