My first visit to Sam's is also my last. I visited Fayette for my nephew's wedding ceremony and told him the meal was on me, wherever he wanted to eat. Though my nephew and his fiancée had never eaten at Sam's in their few months since moving to Fayette, they had apparently heard the food was good and wanted to try it. We placed our order and waited and waited and waited. (It was a takeout order due to upcoming meeting with the priest at the church) I finally went to sit in the car and saw people come in and go out but not my group. They finally came out with the plates, we completed the marriage details, then went home to eat. What a disappointment!!! We had ordered BBQ and catfish strip dinners. On my plate, the fish was some kind of children's heavily breaded, previously frozen, nugget blob mixed with a couple pieces of real catfish trim pieces. The first piece I ate had an amazingly long bone considering it was just a nugget. The BBQ was only ok, nothing special. I was afraid to eat much of it, but took it home to give to my dog, minus that fish bone, which I put in the garbage. Very poor service and...
Read moreWhile working a long day out of town, I happen to stumble upon this small hometown bbq joint and couldn’t pass it up without a try.
The prices were very reasonable. (perhaps even below average) I ordered the large pork sandwich with fries & sweet tea. The wait was about ten minutes as all fried food is made to order. (I can respect that)
I was very impressed with the serving size! The sandwich was huge and fries spilled off the plate. I ordered my sandwich all the way with pickles & slaw. When it comes to bbq, I would consider myself quite the critic. This was hands down the best bbq sandwich that I have had in a very long time!!! They have a house mustard sauce which I absolutely loved. Mustard sauce is kinda rare in our area and these folks have perfected it!
If I had to criticize one thing it would be the cheap frozen crinkle fries. When you’re turning out meat as good as they are, it should be complemented by a fresh cut steakhouse fry.
I will make it a point to stop by every time I’m...
Read moreFood is hit and miss. When it’s fresh, it’s good. I’ve gotten wings that are dry before and the chicken sandwich is surely dry, don’t get it.
Today I tried to get unsweetened tea but noticed it was really clear, like it’s watered down way too much. I asked for fresh tea but they told me they couldn’t do anything, had to wait till it was used up before they can make better tea. I really felt that was really messed up. Letting people continue to get this watered down unsweetened tea, knowing something is wrong with it.
Very inconsiderate, I feel, for a business in food service.
Update: after they realized I submitted a review regarding the unsweet tea they pulled it and made more. Too little too late. The first lady should have done that to begin with.
To end with a good note, I did get the fried wings and I did enjoy them. Fresh is nicer 99%...
