I was in town for TROT at Fayetteville State. On Thursday 6/12 I ventured out for some good ol soul food. I can across Food 4 the Soul on Fillyaw Rd. Owned by Ms Erica. I was excited to try her food because she had numerous accolades on the wall. We spoke and before placing my order she said was we serve no pork in this restaurant Excitedly I placed my order Chicken cheese steak, Mac n cheese, yams and potato salad. She was honest enough to tell me she didn't have enough chicken for the chicken cheese steak. And immediately did a refund. I was pleased. Then it took about 30 minutes for her to serve me the sides. I was kind of puzzled because I figured the food was ready and all she had to do was scoop it into containers. I heard mixing in the back, puzzled because what exactly is she mixing to give me the food I ordered. Mac n cheese had absolutely no seasoning or flavor at all and tasted like Stouffer's. The yams also had no seasoning tastes like she opened a can and put them on the heat. They were hot but there was no sugar no cinnamon nothing at all. The potato salad also.left a lot to be desired. I'm not sure if Ms Erica had a bad day or what but the food I received was not what was raced about on the website. I wish I had taken pictures but I threw it all away. I wanted to go back inside when I I spected my order but sometimes you just walk away. I hope to find her again one day for her to impress me because based on what I tasted I would not return. I don't live anywhere near here so it's not...
Read moreWhile visiting Fayetteville, I was hit with an unbelievable hunger—and a smoothie just wouldn’t cut it! I was craving something sinfully delicious, and Food 4 the Soul delivered.
I ordered the gizzards and fries with double potato salad, mac and cheese, and cabbage. The cabbage had a unique Italian seasoning twist—a delicious surprise! The mac and cheese, while having a great noodle consistency, lacked flavor and had a cheese sauce reminiscent of stadium nachos. The potato salad was a little too sweet and wet for my taste but still enjoyable.
The gizzards were the true superstar! Perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of breading—though fried a little too hard for my preference.
I appreciated the choice between a cute heart-shaped cornbread or a Hawaiian roll—a thoughtful touch! Drink options were kept simple with a mystery punch or sweet tea.
Beyond the food, the warm hospitality stood out. Upon arrival, I received a genuine, heartfelt welcome, as did every first-time guest. Erica, the owner, has also made a commendable choice to remove pork from all dishes, making her menu more inclusive.
This is a true one-woman show, with Erica taking orders, cooking fresh meals, and even washing dishes. What a job!

Read moreIt is so hard to find an establishment that has food like your grandma used to make or better , that real southern feel , and impeccable service all rolled in one . I found this place by accident but it was meant to be because I will now be a regular here . I tried the Thursday special and let me tell you I have never had a cube steak that melted in my mouth like that and the gravy was phenomenal !!!!! The Mac and cheese was insane as well as the yams!! Oh. my. Gosh. Those yams !! It was the cutest heart shaped cornbread that made me smile a little because you don’t see that and it was just cute. The sweet tea was southern for sure lol. I also decided to try the sweet chili wings and I could’ve just cried ! The whole meal I just kept saying this can’t be a real place in FAYETTEVILLE, NC but it is here and I will be telling everyone about it .
Last but not least I want to acknowledge the owner ,Erica Baldwin ,and how down to earth and humble she was. She told me a little of her story and her hands in the community . She is blessed . I will be donating to her Christmas Sneaker Donation drive this year ,...
