We visited on a Sunday afternoon in a party of three. The first thing we noticed was a very strong odor of varnish or paint which wasn’t very appetizing. Our server tried to be helpful by apologizing every time she answered one of our questions, but service was slow and sub-par. We really liked the scallops but they needed more draining out of the fryer. There was a lot of grease on the plate. The cod and clams were good, as was the shrimp. It would be nice if the menu offered more”create your own” combination platter options. We liked the onion rings but were surprised to learn that hush puppies were not provided with the meals and could only be ordered as an appetizer. They are sooo tiny (see photo) and I believe we paid more than $1 a piece for each of the five tiny pieces in the appetizer order. The taste did not justify the price. Overall, it seemed like a pricey “you buy we fry” place. But we liked some of the food enough to consider returning.

Sunday afternoon and I am a first timer at the new Frank's. Visited many times at the old Frank's tavern on the lake and was never disappointed with a meal ever, but this time I have to say it was the worst meal of my life. What can I say? We were delivered an Appetizer (pictured below) that was burnt Hush Puppies. We let the waitress know, she said.Oh, I'm sorry. We have a large carry out going on right now. No excuse for burnt food. 20 minutes later, our food came. I didn't really have high hopes for what was coming after the burnt appetizer, And yet again we were served burnt food !! french fries, all clumped up and gross (pictured below). The coleslaw tasted like it had sat in the refrigerator for months disgusting. Just a horrendous dining experience. If you work to hard for your money take my advice don't spend it here. $50.00 for burnt and tasteless food never again.

Our first time dining here. It was a recommendation of friends who knew our appreciation for "good food". Frank's did not disappoint! We ordered the Haddock dinner and it was delicious! Several people in our party ordered the pizza and it was very good too. We ordered a few appetizers and drinks too. Their drink menu was very nice and had a good variety to choose from. The service was excellent as well. Looking forward to our next visit.

Took my wife there for dinner was seated quickly nice!! but that was the only nice thing. Took over 30 min to get drinks then a Hour and 15 min. To get the food!! Ordered the seafood platter $30.00 one for my wife and one for myself also smelt appetizer $11.00 two cokes. Smelt was good but just like the main course not nearly enough!!! It was so small portions it look like a kids happy meal with extra fries . $87.00 dollars later walked out not feeling full. Will not go back and will not recommend any else . Saw your feedback. True on the food items forgot to say the size of items. Perch? I've had bigger school lunch fish sticks,. Frog legs? Look more like swall tode legs, cod had bigger McDonald fish sandwich, scallops nickel size ect. You could not find my ticket because I paid cash!!! Long wait?? There was alot of empty tables!! Saw some woman putting her extra fries in a box believe me there was plenty of them with everyone's order it just a shame to see how much you charge and how little...

Long-time customers of the original "Frank's" will recognize many elements of the new Frank's Hoppy Bistro such as simple menu and phenomenal fried fish. For me, it is the best-in-the-world smelt! Smelt is a favorite of mine and I have ordered it at countless restaurants after having fallen in love with the dish two decades ago at the original Frank's. Nothing has ever compared, and I am DELIGHTED to find the new Frank's has carried the tradition of its namesake. I was only minutes into my full-size order when I placed an order for an additional basket (which I also promptly ate). My gluten-free wife wasn't as lucky - there is almost nothing on the menu for her. However, the sweet potato fries with cinnamon butter, and homemade coleslaw were outstanding. If you're new to the Frank's experience you may be surprised by the limited menu, but it's true to the original. I'd love to see some additional fish options added or maybe a couple salads, but otherwise I wouldn't want them to change a thing....
