This felt and tasted like we were sitting at a family table in Mexico. The service was warm and friendly. The food was authentic and deeply flavorful. The lowered lighting feels cozy and intimate and the prices were realistic. The food tastes like an abuela y abuelo were making it from the heart. Do not miss this place. It is not your usual Woodward fare. The soup presentation was art. We tried the bean and tortilla soups. I'm still thinking about it this morning...sooooo good. The Enchilada's Alexa with the house sauce were spot on. The Pork Pionero was amazing, the cheese tortilla is literally cheese! Taco's and quesadilla's rounded out the meal order and were all delicious. We also tried the Queso Fundido, Esquites and Chicharron and all were done exactly as we get them in Mexico. Believe it or not, Mexican food is not always spicy, but it is super flavorful. That said, the house made hot sauces were delicious. If you like the heat (I do!), just ask, they have several. Carajillo is the kind of place that is made for Ferndale. Family owned and run and I mean the whole family! This could easily become one of our go to places (we have tried and discarded several!). I did not get pictures because we dove in to everything as soon as it landed on the table. Next visit, I will take pics of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy review was removed. Suspicious. So I am reposting:
I ordered Chicken Tacos. They were dry and bland. The meal came with rice. I was expecting Spanish style, it tasted like lightly salted white rice. My date had Enchiladas Alexa and said the chicken in their food was also dry and flavorless. She also asked for a side salad that did not come out and she remembered haIfway through dinner. So we said this to the server and they were kind about it, and brought the salad out, but that kinda threw off dinner, ya know? I was very disappointed as I was looking forward to this place opening, but I had a bad experience. I hate to say it, but this is pretentious Mexican food. Go to Tienda Mexicana, Super Taco, or Que Pasa Taqueria if you want really good, authentic, affordable,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had high hopes for Carajillo, but unfortunately, it fell short in almost every way. The food was incredibly underwhelmingānothing tasted fresh, and the quality was far below what youād expect, especially given the steep prices. The tacos came without salsa, and even when we ordered the salsa flight, it lacked flavor and any real spice. On top of that, the corn tortillas were tough and unpleasant to eat.
The margaritas were difficult to enjoy, and the queso was practically inedibleāthick, gluey, and clearly made with a poorly executed roux. Service didnāt help the situation either; the staff seemed inexperienced and unprepared.
Sadly, unless there are some serious changes, I donāt see this place lasting. Disappointing is an...
