/20/25 -Four of us dropped in around 7:30 after catching a late afternoon showing of the Bob Dylan biopic. Easy to get to on Swift Rd with lots of easy parking in a small strip mall it’s become our must go Thai eatery every time we vacation in Sarasota. The Bangkok’s decor is a cut above the rest. It got a soothing ambiance with beautiful asian decorations throughout and intricately carved wooden tables with glass covers. The restaurant was busy but not overly crowed and I was especially appreciative that one of the male managers brought over an extra chair so that my portable oxygen concentrator didn’t have to sit out in the aisle on the floor. The food is just spectacular. We all ordered different things and we all were WOWED!. My brother-in-law started out with a cup of soup, which was really a small bowl. It was chocked full of chicken and vegetable chunks. Then he went on to an order of yellow curry loaded with chicken. My wife got the Pad Si-ew wide flat rice noodle dish with pork and broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, peppers, along with some unrecognizable exotics. My sister-in-law got a scrumptious duck entre’ while I got the Penang Curry with the combination seafood protein. This redish-orange curry is a delicately flavored thick Northern-style spicy but not burning hot red curry simmered in coconut milk. Mine was loaded with large (26-30 count) shrimp, scallops, and squid as well as red and green bell peppers and served with a big plate of Jasmin rice. The delicious food, the beautiful atmosphere, attentive, long time waitstaff all roll together to make this our favorite Thai restaurant...
Read moreWhat happened to this place? Haven’t been here since before covid started since I have been limiting takeout food but two nights in a row recently our food was incorrect and very poor.
First night they gave us the wrong soup- we were very clear which one we wanted and they even repeated the correct soup name back to us but gave us a totally different soup, receipt showed the wrong soup too.
Then night two I came back to hopefully get the right soup this time, which I did, but there was barely any shrimp in it. The fried rice with shrimp only had 2 shrimp in it as well, might as well have gotten it without any protein.
I also got curry again the second night and the rice was so over cooked it was mushy like oatmeal. Not sure rice is really that hard to cook correctly and as soon as I opened the carton I could tell it was mush, so the cook definitely knew when it was being made and just didn’t care enough to fix it.
I also noticed while ordering during lunch the first day and dinner the second day that the prices were 50% higher, which would have been acceptable if the portions were somewhat larger too for the dinner portion, but it was the same exact size which was very disappointing.
I drove 30 minutes out of the way each time just for this food, for a place that used to have much better quality and portions, and now it is definitely not worth the trip. I will find somewhere closer that cares more about the food they are...
Read moreAug 8, 2025- I'm so disappointed!! Ordered their Pineapple Fried Rice. Absolutely should be ashamed of serving this! It has canned Pineapple pieces and frozen peas and carrots in it. I am not exaggerating! The only fresh thing in it, was one slice of cucumber. They charged $17.95 without any protein added. For a Thai restaurant to ever serve anything other than fresh, is truly despicable. Thai is all about the fresh vegetables, sauteed ever so gently, fragrant basil and lemongrass, with aromatic curries. Bangkok is really cutting corners and you, the patron, are getting canned and frozen fruits n veggies. We also ordered SP12, Pad Prik Prau w/Shrimp. This dish was nice and flavorful & portion was fine. Panang Curry w/Shrimp. It was fine, but the curry sauce was quite thin, but taste and portion were fine. Chicken Satay was yummy. The Curry dish for reference, was $19.95 (protein included), and to charge $17.95 for a box of rice with canned fruit and frozen veggies...come on. I truly hope the owners of Bangkok read their reviews. If you're looking for authentic, fresh, delicious Thai- try Drunken Poet. You won't be eating anything...
