I appreciated the chit chat I had with the Queen herself. Very kind lady. Atmosphere is fine, I don’t mind a run down looking BBQ spot, they usually have the good food. Flies abound, outside and inside her food truck. Not a huge deal, but it is something to note in case that bothers you. Was sad to find out she doesn’t cook her food fresh daily, the BBQ grill was cold. No nice, yummy smell to lure you in since nothing was being cooked or smoked, at least when I was there (a Friday evening). Now, what really matters is the food, and I got to say that I’m really very disappointed. If you order a pound of beef (brisket), you’re gonna get 1/2lb of fat. And really, it wasn’t tender at all. The pulled pork tastes okay, and is tender but again, half of it is going to be fat. The Mac and cheese = not good. Barely any cheese, and texture was grainy and terrible. Zero flavor, and this is coming from someone who does not use a lot of salt when cooking. Incredibly disappointing for food cooked by someone who is supposed to be a soul food/ southern style/BBQ Queen. Might as well have pulled some white lady from Minnesota to cook some Kraft Mac & cheese- and that would taste better. The collards are pretty uneventful. No smoky flavor, and just tastes salty. The beans. Yall, they are not good. And I say that as nice as I can. I don’t know what she put in them but tastes like Christmas. Maybe cinnamon and cloves? And there are some funky looking chunks of something in there that ain’t beans (looks like ground beef. Not saying that’s what it is, but that’s what it looks like.) Not appetizing to look at. It’s just got an odd flavor profile. I didn’t know it was possible to mess up baked beans, but I’d rather eat it straight from the can than to order it here again. The sweet BBQ sauce tastes funky. I didn’t like it and used my Sweet Baby Rays instead. The mustard BBQ sauce was pretty good; not phenomenal but it was the single item that tasted like it should. I really wanted to love this food, but it’s just not good. It’s basic as hell. I’m going to assume all the high ratings given in the past are from people who don’t know southern style BBQ. I do like the “Queen” as she really is a nice old lady and I hope she continues with her business. But I’m not gonna lie- the food just ain’t...
Read moreI saw the reviews long before our trip and told my wife I wanted to try it. I wanted a real Southern BBQ experience. Once we were there I kind of forgot it was somewhere I wanted to go. We passed it driving to the Jays spring training game, but I didn't see the building. On the way home my wife suggested we go. We saw the truck at the last moment and we pulled in. As soon as my wife saw it, she said no, we are not eating here. I joked around and whined a little and convinced her it needed to be tried. We went back and bought way too much, but the spare ribs were great. Especially with Queen's Sweet and Tangy BBQ sauce. It was the end of the day, and the chicken and pulled pork were a little dry, but the sauce and flavour made up for it. The Queen was great to talk to also. Definitely worth trying. I'd rate this 4.5 if that was the...
Read moreThe absolute worst BBQ I have ever had in my life. I ordered ribs, pulled pork, baked beans and something resembling mac and cheese (pic)
Ribs - rough and chewy. Pulled pork- wildly mediocre Baked beans- the only thing that tasted good.
Mac and cheese-was a god damned crime against humanity. Absolutely disgusting. IT HAS NO CHEESE...it tasted like mayo and my coworker is pretty sure something in it was spoiled.
My entire office agreed that this was a waste of money. I paid $14.50 for my meal and the only thing that was good was the baked beans. NEVER AGAIN. I'm from Cali and I hope this isn't "Southern BBQ", because I am highly...
