We visited Cafe Coconut Cove Saturday evening for supper. This is not a perfect 5* score, but I believe in rounding up. :0) Location and parking: 5* long driveway with parking on either side. No blocked spots and many are paved. Location is quite picturesque on the intracoastal with outdoor dining and a dock (unfortunately closed for our visit). Service and ambiance: 5* due to friendly, non rushed server, inside has a handful of interesting antiques. Dining room is intimate with seating for approximately 30, which explains why they usually have a wait time of about an hour (no reservations). For our visit, we were quoted 45 minutes to an hour wait on the phone, but it only ended up being 20 minutes for a party of 3 at about 7:30 pm. I imagine it is difficult to estimate how long each party will stay. Food: 4*. This is a tough one, and I have to give 4* due to a few factors. First, the prices are fairly high (mid $20s to mid $30s for most entrees). Entrees come with complimentary bread service (however, no pumpernickel nor pretzel bread) and salad-- a small bowl divided into thirds, greens with a cherry tomato, coleslaw, another vinegar-based slawlike salad, and a beet slice. I would have preferred just the garden salad. The creamy herb salad dressing was exceptional. Surprisingly there was no German potato salad. The Bearnaise Schnitzel was amazing, 5 star quality, but the Spice Rubbed Beef Tenderloin (shoulder unavailable) with coffee/cocoa dry rub but the flavors were overwhelmed by the BBQ sauce, maybe a fruit compote or chutney would have made a better accompaniment. My husband had the mushroom melt, and he said the mushrooms were very good. Portion sizes were smaller than expected for the price point. I do like that they offer a few combination plates, and I think that might be a good idea to order with a close friend. My daughter had the Konig Ludwig beer which was savory and paired well with the schnitzel. We decided not to order dessert, but maybe next time. I am glad there is a German cuisine option in the Melbourne scene, and we will return for another special occasion in the future.

This was our first time here but have heard so many good things over the years about the secret Cove restaurant! Cafe Coconut Cove looks like a large house just hanging out on the Indian River Lagoon. There is a tiny bar inside the front door (literally standing room only) and several large tables throughout the restaurant to accommodate larger parties and big families. We were seated at the one of the best tables in the house (facing the river) to watch the sunset. Actually all of the tables are pretty great due to the main dining room being surrounded by windows, but we were closest to the water. Get there before sunset and you will get a beautiful light show! We asked our server for her favorite menu items and followed her recommendations. We split the potato pancakes for our appetizer. These are silver dollar sized potato cakes served with a homemade onion sour cream and an apple cranberry compote. We ate every single one of them. Following the server's suggestions, I had the Eisbein - a braised pork shank with sour kraut and my boyfriend had the Jager Schnitzel - breaded pork with a mushroom gravy. It came with a side of sugar snap peas. The pork shank was perfectly cooked. The meat was tender and the fat was melting right off the bone. The flavor was amazing! I was very impressed. They have extensive wine lists, German beer and cocktails. There were also lots of German desserts offered but we passed on those this time and instead enjoyed an extra glass of wine. This place was wall to wall packed on a random Wednesday night in February and they don't take reservations! Enjoy the nice beachside drive South, and look for the old "COVE" sign on the west side of the road. It's a little south of Ponce de Leon park. We will definitely be back!

After seven years of living in Germany, I left with a strong appreciation for the food. Oh, and the beer, obviously. My late husband had had 21 years of German food, however, and was by his own expression "Schnitzeled out". I'm pretty sure Café Coconut Cove would have changed his mind. Best Jägerschnitzel I've had, and I've eaten my fair share. It came with a potato cake and mange tout (sugar snap peas) that somehow managed to be quite incredible. My friend had bratwurst, which was very similar (he thought) to a Johnsonville bratwurst, but raved about the potato cake and peas. Warsteiner on tap, as well as a selection of quality local microbrewery products and bottled American beer. Let me tell you about my dessert, though. Schwartzwalderkirschtorte to die for. (Black Forest cake). Dark purple cherries, cherry liqueur, rich chocolate cake, whipped cream, shaved dark chocolate. I had a cousin who was a chef de patisserie, and this rivaled hers. It was flat out better than examples I've eaten in the Schwartzwald region itself - that's where we lived, and I was often disappointed. It was so good that my friend took a Lactaid or two so that he could help me eat it, he being lactose intolerant. Besides the amazing food, we were able to snag a table outside overlooking the river, and were lucky enough to see a river dolphin. There were plenty of pelicans and other birds to observe, too. Get there early, because it gets busy fast on a Saturday and isn't the largest place.

How to even start. This was one of the most horrible experiences I have had. From the moment we got there, the hostess gave my family and I a very discriminating look. She was complaining that she needed to add an extra table and chair since we were a big family( 8 of us total) My family and I were at the beach early that day ( We were all dry) we were all wearing shorts and T-shirt so after seeing the hostess face I immediately asked the manager if there was a dress-code to be there. She stated no. I ignored the hostess attitude since we knew she will not be our server. I should have left at that moment. Our Server was so rude and mean! She complained multiple times about having to make 4 cappuccino. Even after bringing my Dads and brothers wine she made a sarcastic comment and then said she will be back after making the cappuccinos since she has to make them and it will take it a long time since many of us order them. Its 4pm in the afternoon. They just opened the restaurant so I had a hard time understanding why will she be in such of bad mood already. 4 of us wanted something to eat and the other 4 just wanted some coffee with dessert. When she came back she dropped the cappuccino and gave a look at us and asked if we were planning to order a dessert and not food. I personally told her Yes a few of us will just eat dessert and the rest will order appetizers and entrances. Her face said it all. She was so upset and kept shaking her head as if we were not planning to still spend money or something. I personally love coffee so I alone would have consumed 2 to 3 cups of cappuccino. My brother was already ordering two appetizers. She then made a comment after my brother placing the appetizers to “mid as well order the entrance since only a few of you will actually eat” I then ask her if I can place the order of my dessert in which she said to me in the must nasty and rude tone “ NO! You will have to wait! I have to do everything by myself and I can’t be taking your order right now, so wait” then she immediately walk away after saying that. Thats when my whole family decided to leave. When my brother was getting up to cancel the order she came back to the table and we told her we will leave and to please just bring the check. She then started cutting us off and asking “why??” Stating “ I just put you guys order in the computer so just order your desert now” She had a really bad tone and was so rude. My husband then told her to please just give us the check and there was not need to argue. My husband and I have worked as a servers back in college a few years ago, and we both know that what she was doing was so wrong. I personally know what it is to be very busy ( which in her case we were her only table) not even busy, and not once I ever treated a customer as poorly as she did. The manager/ Owner did nothing about it either. I will never come back. They were so discriminatory and rude. Save your time there are much better and authentic German restaurants. My husband is German and has lived in Germany. This place is not even close to...

This is an authentic German restaurant.

I lived in Germany for a couple of years and go back once in awhile. I've eaten at a lot of German restaurants across the U.S. some good some bad most not worthy of a mention.

My 90 year old father in law wanted to go to Cafe Coconut Cove for his birthday, I'd never heard of the restaurant and I figured it was a coconut shrimp and seafood place. He said it was German and I thought the wurst, pun intended.

I am happy to say I was wrong, very, very wrong.

Service. The service was very good. Our server was polite, extremely patient, we were a party of 8 and some could not figure out what the wanted. She joked with the birthday boy about not looking a day over 70, and was happy to take pictures and explain what wienerschnitzel and red cabbage were. She was very attentive without becoming a part our get together.

The missing star. The atmosphere was helped by the staff, but the restaurant itself is pretty dark dispite that it has a lot of windows. Dark wood, low lighting etc. In all honesty I have to say it did feel authentic, but unlike the food it did not add to the experience. I would have liked to see the actual German on the menu along with the English but the are in the U.S..

The food. I've eaten a lot of German food. This was the most authentic German food I've had outside of Germany. The food was fresh very well prepared and the tastes were awesome.

I had the house plate, knackwurst, pork steak, sauerkraut and potato puff. It was all excellent. My wife had wienerschnitzel which she reluctantly let me taste. It was perfect. In addition we had red cabbage and snow peas for the table. I managed to get a little of the red cabbage before it was devoured, and the peas were gone before I got any, I'm guessing they were good.

Price point. I thought the price point made for a very good value, but that is subjective. The portions were good the food was excellent and I would have paid more and still found it a value.

Conclusion In true euro fashion they do not rush you at all, and it felt as if they would be ok with us keeping the table for the evening.

Please give yourself a treat and visit Cafe Coconut Cove and enjoy this truly authentic...
