What brought me here today? As a Chicago native, I was searching for the New Haven-style pizza. The ongoing pizza battle between Chicago-style pizza, New York-style pizza, and Detroit-style pizza is a debate among the best places. Ultimately, it is a personal preference, but I am happy to share this small business that is getting it done. I explained to the owner exactly what I was looking for, and he accommodated me. My wife and I ordered his recommendations and a side of garlic knots. Let me tell you, the flavor of the garlic knots, as they were bathed in garlic butter and accompanied by a side of beer cheese, was excellent. It is indeed a go-to for me in the future. Then it came time to experience the pizza. I gave it a few moments to cool, ensuring a decent flavor effort without blistering my mouth and tongue. The first thing was the crunch of the crispy crust, then the flavor took over. I never would have guessed that something so simple would be this good. I am a Chicago native, after all, and it was my opinion that Lou Malnati's pizza was the benchmark to compete with. This pizza is on a different...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI hate to do this, but my meal was just not what I expected at all. Iām pregnant and have been craving a Cheesesteak Sub for a few days. I was happy to learn that this place offered the sub and it was right down the street from me! I got home and realized that my steak, onion, and cheese sub had no cheese. I was wondering why it was so dry. Maybe they just got super busy and forgot the cheese? I heard great things about this place but was very disappointed. Iām not saying this lightly when I say that was probably the worst sub Iāve ever had. I split half of the sandwich with my dad and he unfortunately agreed. It had a dry, crumble like texture (since there was no cheese to hold the meat together).
At first I thought maybe the cheese melted into the bread but there just wasnāt any, not even on the foil it was wrapped in. Shared images. Hoping other people have a better experience! If you try this place, just go with a pizza - definitely do NOT...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLet me start by saying. I am NOT a fan of pizza.....until NOW! This pissa was amazing. The crust was crispy on the outside and just chewy enough on the center. The pizzas had thr perfect amount of sauce that wasnt super acidic (like big pizza chains). On our vegetarian there was an abundance of fresh veggies: onions, green peppers and mushrooms and had the perfect amount of cheese. We also ordered their deluxe pizza with sausage and pepperoni with peppers, onions, mushrooms and black olives--they came straight out of their oven, piping hot! The woman working at Zacs was super friendly, and took the time to welcome us to Lake Asbury since we just moved into the area. She even went so far as to offer us paper plates because we have been living out of moving boxes!
This will definitely be our new "go to" pizza...
