I consider myself a real connoisseur when it comes to diners, luncheonettes, greasy spoons, and whatever else you'd like to call those independently owned, mom-and-pop shops that serve classic, 20th century American eats alongside a bottomless cup of coffee. I've eaten at them my whole life, and nowhere else makes me feel more at home than they do. Galaxy Diner is a great Floridian example of that food philosophy!
They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner standards with the addition of some Italian and Greek dishes like any reputable diner should. My meal was prepared and served hot and quickly by the affable and sincerely helpful server who made my visit feel relaxed and comfortable.
I had the Cheeseburger Club Sandwich, and it was quite good! See, I'm a hamburger fan who loves lots of greens on my burger, which most places in the American East just don't do so well. In my experience, you're lucky to get one leaf of lettuce, a slice of unripe tomato and a sliver or two of onion. Me? I want my burger to have that vegetal crunch with every bite I take of my half pound, char-broiled burger! That's why I ordered the Club, and Galaxy did not disappoint.
The Cheeseburger Club provided plenty of fresh veg with a slather of mayo and smokey bacon layered between three slices of white toast along with my fresh, hot burger with melted cheese and pile of crispy fries. It was epic!
The only issue I have is that they're open only limited hours. Depending upon the day, they open at various times for breakfast and close at 8pm most evenings. For me, a diner, by definition, needs to be open 24/7. They are where you go when there is nowhere else to go. Few do that around here, so I'm not really surprised.
Still, I'll go back. I'm excited to return to sample their main courses and see whether the seafood offered is really fresh and local. If not, there's...
Read moreI’m on vacation from south Texas. Just a week in Stuart seeing my daughter. I’ve had a couple of fiascos with McDonalds earlier this week near Stuart so while shopping at Publix in the Kanner strip mall at Salerno and 6590 S. Kanner HWY I spotted a small restaurant called the Galaxy Diner. That was several days ago. Since then 3 breakfast and lunch has given me a great appreciation for the Galaxy Diner’s chef and wait staff. Wow. SOS. to military men that’s “s&&t on a shingle”. Nowadays it’s chipped beef in white gravy over biscuits. Excellent I couldn’t eat the whole plate with 2large biscuits and country potatoes. Their coffee is excellent. My tuna club sandwich was delicious and filling. I also had a Denver omelette that was very good. My wife always wanted a Denver omelette less ham in a roll to go. My second breakfast was the pancake special. I found what was special during my first bite. Many small sausage pieces in my pancake. Someone make a mistake and dropped sausage near my pancake batter? Nope. That pancake was riddled with lots of delicious pieces of sausage. Yum. Well I’m heading home tonight at midnight. We’re driving north to Sanford to catch an early morning flight tomorrow. My daughter stays here to live and work. As long as we’re visiting her I’m eating at the Galaxy...
Read moreI got in there right before it started getting busy. There’re definitely people on the other side of the wall and to the right of the picture. You know everybody likes to jump in the booths first. It was my first time in and it was all decorated for Christmas. Which you could see in the pictures. I ordered off of that special early menu which you got a drink and a salad or soup with the entrée. Which since I missed Thanksgiving dinner I ordered their turkey stuffing mashed potatoes. Of course they had cranberry sauce which topped it all off. My server and the hostess were very nice and helpful. I walked in I seen these huge cakes right behind the host stand. I had her naming them all off because I didn’t have my glasses on to see the labels. By the end I did pass on dessert only because I was already full but next time I’ll save room. Check it out I don’t think you’ll be...
