I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and stood at the counter. Not one person acknowledged that I was there. I hate to think that my race was a factor but it’s hard to believe other wise when the one girl I made eye contact who was smiling and talking to her friends, stopped smiling and looked down as I walked in.
