This is normally a very good place but I had the unfortunate experience of ordering two dozen mini Halloween cupcakes costing me $52 dollars. . I picked up in the afternoon for an evening Halloween Party. They were the centerpiece of the desserts. But as people took a bite, guests didn't finish it, they spit it out, and most the cupcakes were not eaten. I knew it tasted bad. Very old and dry. I called Mikkelsen's the next day and I was given the excuse that they use European cake batter so it has less fat. But in reality, it was just old and tasted bad. I told her no one ate them and they tasted very old. I have so many leftover. She insisted it was baked that morning. I know cupcakes that were just baked, and felt she was not being honest, as they were stale, and lacked fresh flavor. I wished she had simply said it's possible, they were not baked that day, and offered a refund but she stuck to her story. That was my experience with Mikkelson's Pastry Shop. I work hard for my money as a school teacher in Collier County and I will share my experience with others. A true disappointment of a place I have always been a good customer . Please Do not order mini cupcakes for an event if you are hoping to wow your guests. This is my only negative review of any store but $50 dollars is a lot of money and I feel it is my duty to share with as many people as possible in conversations to make sure you do not order these! She actually told me on the phone that I could have ordered the medium cupcakes, because mediums can be filled and they would have been moist inside unlike the mini cupcakes.
Geez thanks for the warning after the fact!! Sorry for my negative sarcasm at the moment! LOL! Lost a once...
Read moreI stopped by Mikkelsenâs around 11:15am today as it came highly recommended from a few colleagues of mine to speak with someone about ordering a birthday cake for my son. When I walked in there was a short line so when it was my turn I asked the taller, older female with glasses about ordering a custom birthday cake. She immediately shut me down saying it was a very busy time for them and there wasnât anyone to speak with me about what I was looking for but I could email or call them later. Another shorter lady chimes in and says the same thing but with more of an attitude. Really? No one could take five minutes to discuss anything??? I wish I would have known that before I drove an hour to get there. I hope neither of these ladies was the owner. I realize they could have been busy since itâs Easter weekend but the conversation could have been much different. A more professional and caring way to convey that message would have gone as such, âIâm sorry maâam, but at the moment we do not have anyone to discuss the ideas for your cake. We would appreciate your business so here is our card and pricing sheet for you to review. Youâre more than welcome to email us at the following email address to begin the process.â Itâs such a shame as I was looking forward to working with them for my sonâs...
Read moreNot impressed. Their cakes are great looking, but not so great on taste. I brought two extremely over-priced cakes from there recently. One Red Velvet, and a Carrot Cake. First off they misspelled my God Daughter's name. I clearly told them it was "Natalie", and spelled out for them. But they carelessly misspelled it, by not crossing the "t", making the name "Nalalie". But even that wasn't the worst part. The worst part was the taste. Both cakes were nothing but sugar. I consider myself a connoisseur of Red Velvet cakes, and their overly expensive version was not as good as the basic Publix version. It was just loads of sugar, without the critical cream cheese taste. If you ever want to taste the very BEST Red Velvet get a Bubble Room cake. They were a funky restaurant on Captiva that had been there forever, but got wiped out by Hurricane Ian. They are now rebuilding and back selling their truly AMAZING award winning cakes. They are set up every Friday & Saturday at The Broadway Palm Dinner Theater in Ft.Myers from 11am to 2pm selling their fantastic cakes to fund the rebuilding effort of their legendary restaurant. Both their Red Velvet and their Orange Caramel Cake have won numerous awards. Their cakes are also expensive, but at least they are worth the money,...
